A world runner-up for the middle blocker. Vero Volley Monza welcomes Iliya Petkov, the Bulgarian national middle blocker and silver medalist at last summer’s World Championships. This internationally renowned addition adds quality, experience, and solidity to the Brianza-based team ahead of the 2026/2027 season.

Born in 1996, Petkov arrives in Monza after a stint in the SuperLega with Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina. Standing 202 centimeters tall, the player—who turns 30 next October—has built his career in Bulgaria, France, Poland, and Italy, establishing himself as a key figure in his position, including for the national team.

Petkov’s arrival represents another step in the construction of the new Vero Volley Monza team, securing a player of great reliability and personality, capable of providing blocking presence, effective attack, and leadership in key moments of the match. “Vero Volley Monza is a club with an extraordinary history and successes, built thanks to great players who have dedicated their commitment and passion to this club. When I received the offer, I couldn’t pass up this opportunity. I’m truly excited about what lies ahead,” he said. The new Monza middle blocker describes himself in three words: “Ambitious, positive, and disciplined. Three adjectives that, I believe, represent an important part of my character.” Finally, a message to the fans: “I hope the feeling is mutual when I say I can’t wait to meet them in person. For now, we need to be patient, gather all the energy we need for next season, and hopefully share some unforgettable experiences together.”
