Valsa Group Modena secured their spot in the Challenge Cup by winning the Credem Banca 5th Place Playoffs, a feat they had achieved in 2020/21. Thanks to a 3-1 victory over Itas Trentino at PalaPanini in the second round of the Finals, the Emilian club puts last season’s final defeat against Milan behind them and returns to Europe. This milestone comes after the disappointment of their exit in the Scudetto-winning quarterfinals at the end of a hard-fought series against Piacenza.

After a strong start that earned them a one-set lead, the home team fell behind the visiting team, losing the second set after fighting to the last point. The turning point came in the third set of the match, with Modena denying their rivals any further opportunities, taking a 2-1 lead and winning the next set 25-13. Among the hosts, Porro (20 points), Buchegger (18) and Davyskiba (17) took the stage. On the other side, Garcia Fernandez (13) and Lavia (11) finished in double figures. The statistics speak for themselves, with Alberto Giuliani’s men producing 60% in attack, 10 aces, 8 winning blocks while maintaining great solidity in reception. Marcelo Mendez’s team, with a makeshift lineup and severely tested by injuries, fought as best they could, but ran out of energy.
