There are stories that transcend the transfer market, the numbers, and the press releases. Matteo Salvador’s is one of them. Twenty-five years old, born in Monza, a four-point spiker: Rinascita Volley Lagonegro is pleased to announce his arrival in the red and white jersey, but to truly understand who Matteo is, we need to start from afar.
It all began in the Milanese suburbs, where Matteo grew up balancing two great passions: volleyball and study. At 15, he joined the Brugherio youth team, taking his first steps in a club that would prove crucial to his development. Meanwhile, at the scientific high school in Cinisello Balsamo, he proved his accuracy in his studies, too: graduating with a 100, the highest grade. A clear sign of what lies within this Lombard boy who pushes hard in the gym as much as he does in the classroom. After graduating high school, enrolling in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Milan-Bicocca seemed like the natural continuation of this dual life as an athlete and student.
In 2020/21, still nineteen years old, the big moment arrived: Brugherio opened the doors to the A3 series, and Salvador made his debut in the top division. The following season, the bar was raised even higher, with a transfer to Cantù in A2. It was here, however, that Matteo encountered a difficult reality to ignore: combining volleyball and university at the highest level in Italy is practically impossible. Something had to change.
