Tinet has secured a reliable libero who will manage the yellow-blue second line and organize the receiving corps to protect them from the 9-meter volleys coming from the Superleague champions. Prata’s new defense minister is Alessandro Toscani, a twenty-eight-year-old libero from Ortona, who has been a top-flight player for Pallavolo Padova for the past two seasons. After starting out with the Ortona club, he made the jump to Serie A, first with Castellana Grotte and then Bergamo. Finally, he made the leap to the world of world champions with a season with Sir Safety Perugia and the last two with the black and whites of Sonepar Padova.
“In Perugia, we played to win everything,” recalls the libero from Abruzzo, “while in Padua, we were chasing survival. They’re two different types of pressure. But certainly, the pressure you feel when you have to stay up isn’t easy to handle.”
