The red and white spiker Mattia Bottolo, who in the first two weeks of VNL has repeatedly confirmed that he has the attitude of a leader, is preparing to take part in the Cavalese training camp with Ferdinando De Giorgi’s Italy. The athlete from Cucine Lube Civitanova will reach the Italian camp on Saturday with two other players, libero Fabio Balaso and middle blocker Giovanni Gargiulo. Mattia Boninfante, on the other hand, will not be there, as he has his sights set on the Universiade with Vincenzo Fanizza’s group.

What is your personal assessment after the first two stages of VNL?

Bottolo: “I would speak of growth in reference to my performances. In the first matches I didn’t feel I was in the best physical and mental condition to start the ‘blue season’. In the match against Poland, however, I took to the field regenerated and managed to express myself at the levels of the Super League, or at least as I had managed for most of the championship with Lube. I know that there is still a lot of room for improvement and I know that I have to insist on a further step. I will try to grow right from the training camp!”.

You have worked hard to become a protagonist in red and white and in blue. What would you say to an emerging player?

“In any job you encounter difficulties! There are no discounts for athletes, in fact it is difficult to emerge and stay on the crest of the wave. You have to be able to analyze the obstacles, face them and also understand your moments of form.
