Trento – Itas Diatec Trentino needs three sets only to settle it with cimone Modena in the first match of the quarterfinals. 3-0 and  appointment to saturday at 18.30 live on SKY Sport 2, for the 2nd match with Modena who will play with the need to win to carry on in the Series and go to the Third match.

It is a PalaTrento dressed for partying for this challenge, a PalaTrento exploding when Nikolov puts the last ball down.

Matey Kaziyski is the MVP, with 16 points and a real gluing factor for Stoytchev’s formation, directorship in the hands oo expert Nikola Grbic, driving Modena’s blocking crazy and lost.

Andrea Giani’s men must recover after this performance which enhanced too many problems in attack: 35% pos. does not allow Heller & Co. to keep up with Trento, unstoppable at times.

It is so in the first set when, after a few balanced actions, Trento takes off going on 19-13. Andrè tries to keep them at bay but it is not enough to stop Nikolov and mates.

In the second set, Itas DIatec Trentino is good at controling the game from the beginning to the end. The good blocking-digging coorelation makes the difference, Modena keeps struggling especially in attack.

Giani tries to mix the card putting Smuc in then Sartoretti, Casoli and Sidao, but the result does not change.  For Modena it all depends on saturday’s match now. They have been the first match taking advantage of the playoffs to complain about the new rules for foreign players issued by Fipav. Sartoretti and Co., during the warm up, have worn a shirt saying “Let us play”.

Radostin Stoychev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Overall, we have been superior. I expect a more balanced second match though because Modena will play everything in one match. In the first set we got rid of tension. We did well blocking and counterattack”.

Andrea Giani (Cimone Modena): “There was a lot of tension at first but we were never able to express our best volleyball, especially serving and on the high ball. Compliment to Trento but we must play better”.

MVP: Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino)

Cuneo – Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo have opened the quarterfinals following the dream of a championship never arrived in Cuneo.

An objective they worked hard for from the very first minute because Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari is everything but listening to the standings. On the other side, Prandi’s team is concrete and lucid but does not maange to capitalise on two set points on 24-22. It is head to head on 24-24. TIberti and Manià get exited with their digging and there is a turn around when Wijsmans shoots out.

It is an invite which Montichiari grabbs and with a block by Sala, they close the match.

The end of this match leaves some tensions amongst the home team. Captain Wijsmans stumbles across a yellow card for complaining. Cuneo tries to take off with Felizardo serving, it is 21-18 but it is not enough against the blocking-digging correlation orchestrated by Julio Velasco. It is 21-21 with Wijsmans responsible to lead the team at the most critical time of the match: he scores in attack (23-22) and with an ace it is set point. Gonzalez closes it for Cuneo.

Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari starts strong straight away, taking advantage of their digging and Cuneo’s mistakes in attack. The home team keep the pressure though and they get back on, but thanks to Felizardo’s service, always stinging from the 9 metres, they place a break worth 21-18. Towards the end, Velasco’s men efficacy in attacj goes down drastically (31%) and it is not enough to win the match again.

Bre Banca’s 2-1 advantage does not break the balance of the match. The guests do not give up a cm of the net. Montichiari’s front line is impossible to cross over: Sala and Bojovic conquer tie break.

Fourth set on the woolen line too. An invention by Felizardo’s blocking on Sala, two of the best on court, gives Cuneo the advantage who try to make it difficult for the opponents’ reception to win this challenge. Tiberti’s setting, careful once again, becaomes easier to read and Cuneo’s supporters can celebrate their first day like lions.

Silvano Prandi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We won an important match with great attitude but also with tension which took away some of our lucidity, especially in the first part.

Montichiari was the author of a beautiful match, played with continuity and we always fought. We must grow at blocking still and also a bit at serving. On sunday in Montichiari, it will be another episode.

Julio Velasco (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “Good Wijsmans and Abbadi, this one playing a great match. But we were in the match the whole time and I am proud of my team other that the good volleyball played. We are back in the playoffs after 5 years and our match was the most interesting on tonight”.

MVP: Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo)

Treviso – When the games get tought, the tought ones start playing. That is how you could describe the debut of the Italian Champions in the Play Offs 2008. Opposite a generous but not concrete Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza, still without Simeonov diagonal, they get an amazing performance out of the hat, one that starts the quarterfinals well.

It was Saitta’s night, prefered to Pujol for a logic of continuity. But the 3-0 has the signature of the team’s senators, In primis, Samuele Papi, MVP with 74% on 19 balls hit.

Treviso destroyed Copra shooting lightnings from the nine metres (5 aces), and thanks to an ermetic blocking (10), taking the breath away from an attack from Piacenza who paid for the sterility of their attack. Granvorka on and off, Zlatanov completely out (7 points – 29%). Bravo the only one deserving a D.

From the beginning Sisley seems to smile thanks to the technical choice of the Brasilian and they appear the most confident team. The most experience players are the ones going for it, captain Papi goes close to perfection with a 100% on 7 balls. It is head to head up to 19-19 then Hubner and Feui take the champions further and Piacenza tries but does not manage to win.

Different set, same music. Copra tries to scare Dal Zotto’s team at the beginning but Sisley goes ahead again and it is almost the copy of the previous set. It is 2-0 for Sisley.

Copra’s pride tries to steer the evening and they seem to do that. They start well keeping Papi & Co. away up to 14-12. then the Italian champions have a reaction andd it is 16-14. Is it over? Not at all! Copra get their nails out and an amazing attitude going up to 20-20.  Cisolla signs the 24-21, Fei blocks for the 25-21 that closes the 1st match.

Renan Dal Zotto (Sisley Treviso): “Good, but it was only the first step, the road is still very long and the balance we have seen on court tonight proves it. The boys have interpreted the match in the best possible way, the blocking-digging correlation is one of the decisive factors, other than the coldness at the most important times of the sets which allowed us to defeat Copra.

I must say thank you to Cisolla, with the flu up to this morning, who went on court tonight giving his best, like Papi and all the others. Saitta a definite choice? We will see, he was good at going on court with a great peace of mind. However we have won a match, on sunday we start from scratch again”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “The result penalises us, we were always very close, the difference was made by Gustavos’ serves in the second set and overall Sisley hd something more than us tonight when the sets had to be decided. For example, we were not effective with our service tonight”.

MVP: Samuele Papi (Sisley Treviso)

Roma – Match one of the quarterfinals at PalaTiziano puts together M. Roma volley and Lube Banca Macerata for a match that starts on a very high level.

An exiting first match with the guest who seem having something more going on 13-18. M. Roma does not give up and they come up to 16-18. Then Marshall goes for it and it is 23-23. Head to heat in the end with Kooistra’s ace giving M. Roma the victory.

In the second set there is more determination in the green&black team with Hernandex scoring important points. Roma manages the situation well and it looks like they can close it more easily. In reality, Lube comes back and thanks to a block by newly signed Grapentine on Savani they go on 23-22.

The end is still head to head and 32-30 for M. Roma.

In the final set Marshall (MVP) makes the difference. His playing is more spectacular and effective. Lube Banc aMarche Macerata appears more and more unprecise: a couple of mistakes at serving put wings on the opponents’ arms and despite Lube’s reaction in the final part, Roma closes the match with Marshall on 71% in attack.

MVP: Leonel Marshall (M. Roma Volley)
Cristian Savani (M. Roma Volley): “It was an important victory because it allowed us to go to Macerata with more peace of mind. We cannot think we have gone through already. Personally I am happy about my performance, despite not being at my best yet”.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “The first two sets could have been won by both teams. Now we will wait for them in Macerata, aware that in order to win we need to do better than today”.
