The Monday night game was putting face to face two teams with completely different targets. Pineto is fighting to stay up while Verona is trying to qualify for the playoffs. These factors led to a tense beginning of match, with a few too many mistakes on the serve from both parts. Pineto took a 2-o lead before Verona got back in it with pride. However, Pineto managed to create the upset in style in a thrilling fourth set won 25-23. Rivaldo stood out once again for Montagnani’s team, who is not safe yet but this win did hand in a final judgement: Padova consequently goes down after 25 years spent in elite.
Davidson Lampariello (Framasil Pineto): “We expressed ourselves extremely well in dig and managed to take the game in our hands after the good start of Verona. Now, we’re a lot closer to our target and we’ll play the last two games with a little less pressure than our direct opponent, Forli”.
Alberto Giuliani (Marmi Lanza Verona): “The difference was in the second opportuinities, in the concentration in dig and in the fact that Pineto was more consistent. We did not have the necessary patience in attack. Parodi’s absence? The spiker has a soar shoulder but we still don’t know what is the problem. I didn’t feel like risking him”.
