3-0 is the score! Third round on Wednesday

Quickness is the word that qualifies best this second round of the SerieA1 Tim. Every single game finished on a 3-0 score, with Modena, Taranto and Cuneo winning away from home. The upset of the day comes from Vibo Valentia, who swept last year’s league runners up Trentino.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22) –

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Contreras 8, Gonzalez 5, Marquez 15, Andrae 11, Ferraro (L), Moltò, Tencati 6, Barone 5, Cicola (L). Dnp Cannistrà, Corvetta, Saraceni, Simeonov. Coach. Uriarte Jon.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 10, Gallosti (L), Birarelli 4, Portuondo Juantorena 9, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Vissotto Neves 4, Sala 4, Sokolov 7, Herpe, Bari (L). Dnp Fedrizzi, Corsini. Coach. Stoytchev Radostin.

Vibo Valentia played as a great team and got rid of the European champs, Trentino. Three sets was enough to brush aside what was its bugbear and the team that had knocked them out of the playoffs last season. On the other side of the net, it was hard to recognise Trento, definitely not playing at its usual standard, with Kaziyski and Vissotto disappointing.Marquez impressed on his debut for Vibo, he was just unstoppable.

Andrea Bari (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Credit to this Vibo team. It played well tonight. We didn’t express a good volleyball, but credit to the host for being more consistent. They made very very few mistakes”.

Jon Uriarte (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We’ve worked really hard to prepare this game during the week, because we knew we had to face a great team. I have to thank all the boys for keeping their focus at all time, even in the difficult moments”.

SISLEY TREVISO – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-22) –

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 13, Horstink 11, Papi, Farina (L), De Togni 5, Bontje 13, Maruotti 9, Vanin (L), Garcia 1, Cuda. Dnp Kohut, Sabbi. Coach. Piazza Roberto.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Hubner 5, Savani 14, Bucaioni, Cernic 4, Nemec 2, Ogurcak, Sintini 1, Pippi (L), Stokr 7, Fanuli (L), Bovolenta 7. Dnp Botti, Lo Bianco. Coach. Sartoretti Andrea.

It was all one-way traffic in favour of the host, Treviso, which swept Perugia.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “The attitude from my boys was good, we touched every ball and in dig we played better than them, trying to get everything back. I had asked a certain tactical discipline and they executed it: We have to go through a process of improvement, like Maruotti for example, who did not do too well on Sunday against Loreto but who had a good game today. Everyone has to follow that example, but we are on the right track. Fei had an excellent performance, Riccardo too, but I don’t want to talk about individual players”.

Andrea Sartoretti (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We’ve never got in the game, maybe because this is the beginning of the season and that we don’t know each other very well, maybe we simply had a bad day, the fact is that today there was nothing positive to get out of it. They were better in every area of the game.I do have classy players that tried everything possible with pride, but nothing went right. I’m pleased that in a moment of difficulty they tried to react, but Treviso did not allow us to do that today. Hopefully it will go better on Wednesday”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – TRENKWALDER MODENA 0-3 (18-25, 23-25, 18-25) –

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli (L), Groppi, Sottile 1, Della Lunga 8, Lasko 16, Kovar, Curti, Holt 4, Galabinov, Colaci (L), Kromm 12, Howard 5. Dnp Peslac. Coach. Bagnoli Bruno.

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Ciabattini (L), Kooistra 5, Dennis 27, Kooy 9, Esko 1, Meszaros 7, Casoli 1, Piscopo 5. Dnp Soli, Pagni, Biribanti, Diaz Mayorca. Coach. Prandi Silvano.

Modena easily overcame Verona in its home debut. Sottile’s team couldn’t find the understanding and the aggressiveness shown in the first round, while Dennis took care of things for Modena. The Cuban (MVP) did everything: 3 aces, 1 block with a nice 72% in attack. Before the game, spiker Kromm received the Best Server award for last season.

Angel Dennis (Trenkwalder Modena): “I am very satisfied with today’s performance. Let’s hope we can keep going with this rhythm. We certainly have good basics because the group is happy and united, which is a very important aspect”.

Daniel Howard (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Modena played a good game and managed to make it tough for us right from the start. We have crucial games ahead of us, we have to keep focus on every game”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 27-25) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak, Meoni, Marshall 17, Grassano, Boninfante, Zlatanov 14, Durante (L), Oivanen 5, Urnaut 8, Bjelica 9. Dnp Sequeira, Bravo. Coach. Lorenzetti Angelo.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 3, Marra (L), Diachkov 13, Dolfo 2, Van Dijk 10, Visentin 4, Vigilante, Belcecchi, Paoli, Cester 6, Shumov 6. Dnp Marzola. Coach. Moretti Luca.

The tricolour choregraphy that welcomed the Italian champs was beautiful. The monoflex was tricolour too at the PalaBanca, and it will be so for the whole season in Piacenza. The champs did their job and, above all, showed an understanding between the players that the teams usually can’t boast at this time of the season. Loreto was in it in the third set, forcing Piacenza to a tight finish. Meoni was named MVP.

Luca Moretti (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “We’ve faced a strong squad. When we managed to contain them in reception we were in the game. Piacenza possesses fantastic servers, while we have excellent players on high balls: so the difference was mainly the serve”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “I dedicate the ‘Coach of the Year’ award that I received from the League to these amazing boys with whom I live everyday. Congratulations to Loreto, which will keep improving. We served with more consistency compared to the game against Taranto, but we have to improve in accuracy. We made a lot of mistakes in attack in the third set”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – PRISMA TARANTO 0-3 (24-26, 19-25, 22-25) –

ANDREOLI LATINA: Van De Dries, Gitto 1, Giovi (L), Saitta 2, Snippe 12, Nikic 5, Fabroni 1, Geric 4, Vujevic 6, Spairani 1, Giombini 18. Dnp Cortina. Coach. Ricci Daniele.

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 9, Ricciardello (L), Candellaro 4, Montagna (L), Cozzi 10, Suxho 3, Rodrigo Pinto 15, Abbadi 13, Westphal 1. Dnp Moretti, Spescha, Quartarone. Coach. Montagnani Paolo.

Daniele Ricci (Andreoli Latina): “We played worse than them, which means that in sport you lose. Shame we wasted a couple of opportunities, especially in the first set. Then blocked, served and attacked better than us”.

Paolo Montagnani (Prisma Taranto): “We had an excellent game, but as a coach I always want more. To win 3-0 away from home is not easy. We gained confidence with the first set. We made very few mistakes, that allowed us to stay focused”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) –

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lebl 2, Raymaekers 6, Cisolla 13, Paparoni, Vermiglio, Bartoletti, Smerilli (L), Martino 5, Monopoli 1, Corsano (L), Omrcen 10, Podrascanin 6. Coach. De Giorgi Ferdinando.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Perez Moreno, Roberts 11, Lampariello (L), Ronaldo 1, Sborgia 6, Perazzolo 11, Ereu 5, Gradinarov 4. Dnp Ravellino, Modica, Di Franco, Armeti. Coach. Brutti Alessandro.

Predictions were respected as Macerata (without Swiderski and Dentino) only had a few problems in the first set, in which it lost Corsano too because of pain on his knee (well substituted by Smerilli). Then, De Giorgi’s team had it all easy even though Pineto staye din the second set until 15. Alberto Cisolla finished top scorer and MVP, scoring 13 points (60% in attack and one block).

Alberto Cisolla (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We were not brilliant but we’ve worked a lot with the weight this week so that’s normal. We did well not to put our heads down when they kept it tight, then we stepped up a gear, improving in every set. Overall, I’m satisfied. I managed to do well on the serve. These are three important and, I’d say, deserved points. I really want to thank the Macerata fans for the nice welcoming I received in my debut here. A real tour de force is ahead of us now, with four games against very strong team in very few days”.

Emanuele Sborgia (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “We are a new team, which need to play before getting results, so I’d say this defeca should be seen in a positive way, despite the stats that might seem severe. It’s not against Macerata that we have to win. We’ll be resting on Wednesday so we’ll have a whole week to train and prepare Sunday’s match against Forli. That one will definitely be an important one for us”.

YOGA FORLì – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 0-3 (20-25, 22-25, 14-25) – YOGA FORLì: Mengozzi, Coscione 1, Carrol 7, Popp 11, Stancu 4, Gjorgiev, De Pandis (L), Bianchi (L), Casadei 2, Loglisci 2, Maric 19, Moretti. Dnp Ainsworth. Coach. Molducci Piero.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Wijsmans 13, Henno (L), Parodi 8, Fortunato 6, Nikolov 16, Grbic 2, Mastrangelo 10, Patriarca, Pieri (L). Dnp Ariaudo, Nuti, Jeroncic, Peda. Coach. Giuliani Alberto.

Yoga Forlì stayed in the game for just two sets, suffering on Cuneo’s acceleration halfway through each set. At 20-24 in the first set, Daniele Moretti got injured at his shoulder on a serve. The final set was without suspense, with Nikolov standing out.

Vladimir Nikolov (Cuneo): “This is an important victory for us. Following the KO of the first round it was crucial to regain confidence. Our team is stronger than what it showed tonight. We just have to get to know one another better”.

Manuel Coscione (Yoga Forlì): “At times we played well, but we still have a lot of work to do. We are inconsistent right now. It’s positive to play a lot now, because this will help us to gain confidence and be clear-minded”.
