Saturday and Sunday “Stand up against poverty”

The Italian Volleyball League joins the campaign of the United Nations

On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, the Italian Volleyball League and its clubs will get on court in favour of the campaigned called “Stand up against poverty”, promoted by the United Nations, with the support of the CONI. The campaign aims at making people aware and getting them to mobilize for the Developing Targets of the Millennium and against poverty. Getting rid of extreme poverty and hunger, promoting equality of the sexes and empowerment of women, securing the good environmental conditions, are only some of many achievements that it wants to fulfil. During the team presentations, the players will gather in centre court with band on the forearm saying STOP TO POVERTY, while the fans will be welcomed to stand up and participate.

“We are standing up today together with millions of people around the world, on this historic day, as a symbol of our effort in the fight against extreme poverty and climatic changes, and to ask the presidents and prime ministers of the whole world to act immediately, maintain the promises made to reach the Targets  of the Millennium and to fight against the environmental deterioration. We don’t want those promises to remain once again just words. We will continue to stand up, not only today but everyday to say: There are no excuses, stop to poverty and climatic changes!” www.standupitalia.it
