Serie A1 TIM

Trento is the winter champs, the quarter final draw of the cupi s known.Treviso goes above Modena, which slipped home against Hernandez’s Pineto.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 0-3 (16-25, 22-25, 24-26) –

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 11, Marra (L), Marzola, Diachkov 8, Dolfo 1, Tereshin 1, Visentin 2, Vigilante 10, Belcecchi, Cester 5, Shumov 8. DNP Van Dijk, Paoli. Coach. Moretti.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lebl, Raymaekers 11, Cisolla 8, Paparoni 1, Vermiglio 2, Fantin, Corsano (L), Omrcen 21, Podrascanin 10. DNP Bartoletti, Smerilli, Martino, Monopoli. Coach. De Giorgi.

In a derby that had not occurred in the top division for seven years, Omrcen took over to lead his team to a sweep.

Luca Moretti (Esse-ti Carilo Loreto): “Our approach to the game was poor, Diachkov and others have struggled at the beginning of the game. When we had the opportunity to get a set, we made a few silly mistakes and Macerata punished us”.

Valerio Vermiglio (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We did well to handle the ups and downs we had during the game. These are three very important points. We faded in the third set, but we took advantage of their lack of confidence to finish the game in straight sets”.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-21) –

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 19, Gallosti (L), Birarelli 13, Portuondo Juantorena 17, Zygadlo 1, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Sala 8, Sokolov 8, Herpe 3, Bari (L). DNP Vissotto Neves, Fedrizzi, Corsini. Coach. Stoytchev.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Hubner 2, Savani 25, Bucaioni, Nemec 10, Ogurcak, Sintini 1, Pippi (L), Lo Bianco, Stokr 25, Bovolenta 10. DNP Cernic, Botti, Fanuli. Coach. Sartoretti.

Perugia made it difficult for Trento, it led  for most parts of the game after taking the first set but in the end it had to get on the coach back home with a 3-1 defeat. Thanks to this win, Trento is winter champs, and will face the number 8 in the table, which is… Perugia. However, the 14 points that separates the two teams in the table were not that obvious on court today.

Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “Perugia played an excellent game, but in the end we managed to win it thanks to our individualities. Their pressure on the serve made us struggle for most of the game. Still, we managed to stay in it and take three great points with character”.

Andrea Sartoretti (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “It’s never satisfying to lose, but today we did more than other times, fighting on every ball and we might have deserved a little something more than a 3-1 defeat. Without Cernic and with Nemec as 4, we have been competitive anyway. Still, Trento possesses players that can decide a game at any moment just like they did tonight”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-15) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak, Meoni, Marshall 16, Grassano 1, Zlatanov 15, Bravo, Rinaldi (L), Oivanen 11, Urnaut 8, Bjelica 5. DNP Mazza, Boninfante, Sequeira. Coach. Lorenzetti.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Sivula 1, Rauwerdink 4, Tuominen 1, Forni 6, Molteni 6, Buti 5, Travica 3, Gavotto 14, Exiga (L). DNP Pesenti, Krumins, Haldane, De Luca. Coach. Berruto.

Piacenza thumped Monza in a one-way traffic game. Zlatanov was the usual leader (MVP) of a team that put the opponent into all sorts of problems with its serve.

Pietro Rinaldi (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “It’s been a beautiful game. There was only one team on court. It was not easy because there was myself as new player in the team, but the group made things really easy for me. If we keep this spirit and dedication, sky is the limit”.

Mauro Berruto (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “The better team won. It was very tight in the first set, which is the one that decided the final outcome. We had a spectacular first half of championship, in which we have been really dominated in only two games: against the two league finalists of last season. I am more than satisfied given all the problems we had at the beginning of the season”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – YOGA FORLì 1-3 (24-26, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25) –

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Gonzalez 6, Corvetta, Andrae 12, Saraceni 3, Moltò 4, Simeonov 27, Quiroga 3, Tencati 10, Barone 3, Cicola (L). DNP Cannistrà, Marquez, Ferraro. Coach. Uriarte.

YOGA FORLì: Coscione 2, Carrol 14, Popp 17, Stancu 6, Ainsworth 2, De Pandis (L), Casadei 4, Loglisci 5, Maric 18, Bacci. DNP Mengozzi, Bianchi, Gotch. Coach. Molducci.

The worst Vibo team recently seen had to surrender against a well-organised Forli team, which made it clear from the word go it wanted the three points.

John Uriarte (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We are going through bad times after many worries. Hopefully we’ll get out of it as soon as possible, ideally starting with the next game”.

Piero Molducci (Yoga Forlì): “We are obviously all happy with the three points won in Vibo Valentia. My boys had a good game, consolidating their good moment of form. Congratulations to all of them”.

PRISMA TARANTO – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 0-3 (22-25, 20-25, 14-25) –

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 12, Ricciardello (L), Montagna (L), Cozzi 7, Moretti, Suxho 2, Westphal, Elia 6, Rodrigo Pinto 16, Bartman 3. DNP Candellaro, Quartarone. Coach. Montagnani.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Henno (L), Parodi 11, Fortunato 3, Nikolov 12, Grbic 6, Peda, Mastrangelo 13, Patriarca 5. DNP Ariaudo, Nuti, Jeroncic, Pieri. Coach. Giuliani.

Cuneo managed to keep a very high level of play despite the fact it was without Wijsmans. The serve (5 aces), blocks (12) and the dig (Henno the specialist again) were Cuneo’s weapons to beat Taranto, which stopped to play at 20 in the first as they felt they were victim of a poor referee decision.

Giuseppe De Patto (Direttore Sportivo Prisma Taranto): “The club, city and fans don’t deserve such performance even if Cuneo is objectively in great form. I just can’t understand why we get to 20 and then all of a sudden stop to play. If the chairman decided to send everybody back home today, he’d be totally right”.

Vladimir Nikolov (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Deserved win, we played better than Taranto despite being without Wijsmans and my physical problems. There is only a bit of disappointment concerning the first place but we played 8 games in 30 days and it took its toll physically. Our main weapon today was the block-dig combination. Taranto has to find the right balance with the change Abbado for Bartman. The Brasilian, my teammate last season, used to guarantee more alternatives in attack”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – SISLEY TREVISO 2-3 (23-25, 19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 9-15) –

ANDREOLI LATINA: Van Den Dries 7, Giovi (L), Saitta 1, Snippe 17, Nikic 12, Fabroni 1, Geric 7, Vujevic 3, Spairani 8, Giombini 9. DNP Gitto, Cortina. Coach. Medei.

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Fei 22, Horstink 6, Papi 3, Farina (L), Kohut 6, De Togni 8, Bontje 15, Maruotti 15, Garcia 4. DNP Sabbi, Vanin, Cuda. Coach. Piazza.

Latina grabbed a point against Treviso in a game with maximum competitive spirit from the first play. Latina surrendered only in the fifth to Bontje’s spikes.

Andrija Geric (Andreoli Latina): “We’re satisfied with the point taken against such a strong team like Treviso. We have improved compared to previous games. But we have to gather more points to get out of this situation”.

Samuele Papi (Sisley Treviso): “The first two sets went very well but then we lost our rhythm. We did well to win the fifth despite falling three points behind. We’re happy with the win but disappointed not to have sealed it earlier”.

TRENKWALDER MODENA – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 0-3 (17-25, 23-25, 23-25) –

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Kooistra 9, Dennis 14, Pagni 1, Kooy 3, Biribanti 3, Esko 2, Casoli 3, Diaz Mayorca 9, Piscopo 6. DNP Ciabattini, Soli. Coach. Prandi.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Ravellino 8, Hernandez 15, Lampariello (L), Henrique 4, Sborgia 3, Ereu 11, Gradinarov 8. DNP Perez Moreno, Roberts, Modica, Di Franco, Perazzolo, Armeti. Coach. Fant.

Pineto got the breakthrough they wanted by coming back from Modena with its second win of the season, and a very important one to keep its hopes to stay up alive. This unexpected stop means Modena finishes fourth at the halfway point of the championship and will meet Macerata home in the Italian Cup quarter final. Osvaldo Hernandez MVP.

Silvano Prandi (Trenkwalder Modena): “It’s difficult to give a technical explanation to this defeat. One thing we could say is that, amongst other things, the intensity on the serve-block-dig phase was not enough. Should we worry? We should, we lacked the intensity that we have shown many other times. We have to get back to work now”.

Roberto Fant (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “We’ve been working very hard in the last two weeks but I certainly didn’t expect to obtain such result that quickly. Everyone played well, Modena was not at its best and we took full advantage”.
