TRENKWALDER MODENA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-23) –

TRENKWALDER MODENA: Manià (L), Ciabattini, Kooistra 8, Dennis 30, Pagni, Kooy 5, Esko 3, Casoli, Diaz Mayorca 14, Piscopo 9. DNP Soli, Mazzali Gabriele. Coach. Prandi.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Groppi, Sottile, Della Lunga 17, Lasko 17, Kovar 2, Curti 10, Holt 6, Colaci (L), Kromm 13, Howard. DNP Peslac. Coach. Bagnoli.

Modena went back to winning ways after two consecutive losses. The game has been intense and with a good level of play. Prandi had to do without the disqualified Biribanti and with a Casoli not hundred percent fit. Dennis and Diaz were on hand to push Modena in the first two sets, but Verona reacted in the third. Aces, red cards, blocks were all part of the clutch time and the final word eventually went to Dennis in an eventful end of match. The one to hand in the MVP award to Dennis was football world champion Luca Toni.

Silvano Prandi (Trenkwalder Modena): “It’s a crucial win for us: Our big target is to get into the playoffs and these three points are fundamental. As far as the level of play is concerned, we can still improve. Dennis is in great form and we want to get better on other situations”.

Bruno Bagnoli (Marmi Lanza Verona): “The mistake from the referee at the end of the fourth set was key, we were playing very well, while Modena was hanging on thanks to some great serving”.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 0-3 (20-25, 13-25, 21-25) –

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Ravellino 1, Perez Moreno, Roberts 3, Hernandez 8, Lampariello (L), Henrique, Sborgia 3, Di Franco 1, Perazzolo 1, Ereu 10, Gradinarov 3. DNP Modica, Centorame. Coach. Fant.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lebl 4, Raymaekers 3, Cisolla 10, Vermiglio 4, Smerilli (L), Martino 10, Omrcen 20, Podrascanin 8. DNP Paparoni, Bartoletti, Fantin, Monopoli, Corsano. Coach. De Giorgi.

Pineto ended its 2009 with a 3-0 defeat against Macerata. Pineto struggled in reception and at the net. MVP: Macerata’s outside hitter Igor Omrcen.

Roberto Fant (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “There was nothing we could do today. They have dominated in every area of the game. This is a step back, we’ll have to forget quickly about this poor performance and start to focus on the game against Forli”.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We managed to play with great intensity and put Pineto under pressure right from the start. We expected a tight game but that’s not how it turned out to be. Let’s concentrate on the game against Perugia now”.

PRISMA TARANTO – ANDREOLI LATINA 1-3 (18-25, 25-16, 18-25, 19-25) –

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 19, Ricciardello (L), Candellaro 3, Cozzi 3, Moretti 1, Suxho 1, Westphal, Rodrigo Pinto 16, Quartarone 2, Bartman 11. DNP Montagna, Elia. Coach. Montagnani.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Van Den Dries 2, Gitto, Giovi (L), Saitta 7, Snippe 12, Nikic 1, Fabroni, Geric 12, Vujevic 11, Spairani 11, Giombini 14. DNP Cortina. Coach. Medei.

Latina had its setter Saitta back (MVP), and took advantage of a Taranto team in crisis. A brilliant Cleber was not enough to shake the guests. It rained blocks from all angles for Pineto (18 all together, of which 6 from Spairani and 4 from Saitta).

Leondino Giombini (Andreoli Latina): “It’s been a team effort. We knew the team would have shown its quality sooner or later. Unfortunately, when you face the top teams of this league, you find it hard to find your rhythm. On the other hand, against opponent such as Taranto, we can show a good level of play”.

Giuseppe De Patto (Prisma Taranto): “We have wasted another opportunity to close in on the 8th position. The club will ask for explanation from the coaching staff on this negative spell. We just can’t find consistency and when we fell behind we can’t seem to be able to react. I am disappointed but we need to find the resources to get back on track”.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO – COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA 0-3 (19-25, 21-25, 21-25) –

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 10, Marra (L), Marzola, Diachkov 5, Dolfo 6, Tereshin 6, Visentin 6, Vigilante 1, Belcecchi, Paoli 6, Cester, Shumov 6. Coach. Moretti.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Rak 6, Meoni, Marshall 9, Grassano 2, Boninfante, Zlatanov 7, Bravo 15, Rinaldi (L), Oivanen, Urnaut 3, Bjelica 8. DNP Mazza, Sequeira. Coach. Lorenzetti.

*Third set won by Piacenza because Loreto’s team was incomplete following Visentin’s disqualification.

Piacenza won 3-0 but the Loreto fans will remember this one for a long time. Loreto had won the third set and were back in the game but a series of decisions in favour of the Italian champions meant a 3-0 win was given to Piacenza. The reason? Once the set was finished and won by Loreto, the referees disqualified Visentin because he had been substituted too many times. As a result, the result was frozen at the moment of the substitution (21-22), and a 21-25 win was given to Piacenza while everyone was ready to play a fourth set.

Luca Moretti (Esseti Carilo Loreto): “Despite the difficulty, we managed to play a good game, and we undeniably deserved a different result. It’s an unfortunate day, the gap with one of the big teams of this league seemed to have diminished thanks to a great competitive spirit and determination but in the end it was all in vain”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “We are not in great form right now and the problems we had today proved it. We managed to build a 2-0 lead, and in the third we did well to come back in it thanks to the contribution from everyone. Visentin’s disqualification ? I don’t know, I haven’t heard what he said and what could have led to such a decision from the ref”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – YOGA FORLì 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-20) –

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Henno (L), Parodi 12, Fortunato 9, Nuti, Nikolov 18, Grbic 3, Peda 1, Mastrangelo 8, Patriarca 1. DNP Wijsmans, Ariaudo, Jeroncic, Pieri. Coach. Giuliani.

YOGA FORLì: Mengozzi 2, Coscione, Carrol 11, Stancu 7, Gjorgiev, De Pandis (L), Casadei 1, Loglisci 5, Maric 10, Bacci, Gotch 6. DNP Ainsworth, Bianchi. Coach. Molducci.

For Christmas, Cuneo offered its fans the tenth league win of the season. In a 3-0 victory over Forli, libero Hubert Henno was named MVP.

Nikola Grbic (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Forli is playing well and we knew it was going to be a tricky one. We couldn’t have expected to win 3-0. We did a good job of putting into practice what we had done in training”.

Manuel Coscione (Yoga Forlì): “There was little to do tonight. Without Pop we struggled, it has to be said that we had little time to work with this formation on court. Cuneo is extremely strong and this season it has a real chance to get to the final”.

RPA LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA – SISLEY TREVISO 0-3 (20-25, 13-25, 27-29) –

RPA LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Fanuli, Hubner 5, Savani 6, Bucaioni, Nemec 7, Ogurcak 1, Sintini 1, Pippi (L), Lo Bianco, Stokr 9, Bovolenta 7. DNP Botti. Coach. Sartoretti.

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti, Horstink 13, Papi 7, Farina (L), Kohut, De Togni 6, Bontje 9, Maruotti 15, Garcia 6. DNP Fei, Sabbi, Vanin, Cuda. Coach. Piazza.

An hour and eleven minutes is all Treviso needed to get rid of Perugia, which started the return games with two consecutive losses. MVP: Gabriele Maruotti.

Gabriele Maruotti (Sisley Treviso): “Not an easy place to go to, it’s tough to get used to this gym. Still, we got off to a good start. We have always had everything under control. At the end of the third set, we relaxed a bit but in the end we took the three points. Horstink did very well, we tried him as outside hitter just once in training. Hopefully, Fox will be back soon, though.”

Stefan Hubner (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We just haven’t played: This is what the real problem of this game was. They haven’t done anything special. We haven’t hit the serve hard, in the second set we basically didn’t put a foot on court. We had a reaction at the end of the third set. Sintini tried to alter the game and it fortunately worked out fine otherwise it would have really been an awful defeat”.
