Coach Hugo Conte welcomed Jose Matheus in Catania. The new signing, born in 1976, is an experienced outside hitter from Venezuela. Matheus holds the record of most points scored in one single game (sets were going to 25) with 45 when he was playing for Gioia del Colle in 2000-01. In Italy, Matheus also played for Molfetta (2003/4), Ferrara (04/05) and Bari (06/07), while he played in Spain for Almeria (1999-2000 and 2005-06).
“The arrival of Matheus further shows how much we believe we can stay up” explained Fabio Pagliara.
