Trento loses in  Moscow, Perugia wins in Cyprus

DINAMO MOSCOW – TRENTINO BETCLIC 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-17) –

DINAMO MOSCOW: Salparov (L), Botin, Grankin 3, Volkov 13, Poltavskiy 17, Berezhko 13, Samoylenko, Shcherbinin 11, Dante Guimaraes Santos Amaral 21. DNP Yakovlev, Markin, Bezrukov. Coach. Cherednik Yury.

TRENTINO BETCLIC: Zygadlo 1, Herpe 1, Kaziyski 9, Sokolov 3, Vieira De Oliveira 2, Bari (L), Sala 4, Birarelli 9, Vissotto Neves 20, Juantorena Portuondo 12. DNP Corsini, Gallosti. Coach. Stoytchev Radostin.

Trento’s long and historic streak of 15 consecutive wins in the Champions League was interrupted in this first meeting of 2010 in Moscow. Indeed, the Russians took revenge on the severe loss suffered in Italy by handing Trento its first defeat of its history in the competition. Dinamo and Trento are now tied in first place of the group with 7 points. A win for Olympiacos tomorrow against Budejovice would see them back within one point of the leaders.

“They undeniably deserved the win – said coach Stoytchev – Dinamo played better than us and took the two points. They have been aggressive during the whole encounter. To be honest, after the first set, we were hoping to win it but as the game wore on, we became more and more tired physically, not only was it difficult to play after the five sets played this Sunday against Piacenza but there was also the change of ball, with which we have not trained at all in recent weeks. I’m not that interested in our interrupted winning streak and the fact that they pegged us back in the standings, I’m a lot more interested in understanding the reasons of this defeat and get right back on track in the league as well as in the Champions League. Anyway, I am satisfied with the fighting spirit shown by some players, like Juantorena, Birarelli and Vissotto. Kaziyski was not in it today, he has seemed a bit tired in recent weeks. Hopefully Matey will get back in form quickly because such a strong player can make the difference for us at any moment”.

Trento will play host to Macerata on Sunday at 6pm.
