Serie A1 TIM

Trento is 9 points clear. Behind, Cuneo stops Treviso’s winning streak at 9. Verona creates a gap between top 8 and Perugia, which is 5 points from the playoff zone.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23) –

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 14, Birarelli 10, Portuondo Juantorena 21, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira 4, Vissotto Neves 18, Sala 7, Sokolov, Herpe, Bari (L). DNP Gallosti, Fedrizzi, Corsini. Coach. Stoytchev.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Raymaekers 4, Cisolla 11, Paparoni, Vermiglio 3, Bartoletti 5, Fantin, Smerilli (L), Martino 14, Monopoli 1, Omrcen 12, Podrascanin 12. DNP Swiderski. Coach. De Giorgi.

It has not been easy in the second and fourth set for Trento but in the end it came away with a 3-1 win, bouncing back straight away following its Champions League disappointment in Moscow. Junatorena was the man of the match again as Trento goes 9 points clear at the top thanks to Cuneo’s win in Treviso.

Radostin Stoytchev (Itas Diatec Trentino): “I’m obviously very happy with the result, this allows us to extend our advantage at the top despite the fact that we haven’t got much time to train right now with all the games we are facing. The team showed great character today, Macerata played well and made very few unforced errors”.

Ferdinando De Giorgi (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We should have handled better a few plays, but we have shown some good volleyball as well. We have played with will, aggressive, which is not easy against such a strong opponent. We managed to play face to face with Trento only when Omrcen scored with consistency. When that did not happen, the difference was quite evident. Igor is a player that leaves it all on the floor, I really can’t blame him at all for anything”.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-18) –

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA: Massari, Meoni 1, Marshall, Grassano 11, Sequeira 15, Bravo 13, Rinaldi (L), Oivanen 11, Bjelica 10. DNP Boschi, Mazza, Piano, Zlatanov. Coach. Lorenzetti.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Gonzalez 1, Corvetta, Andrae 4, Ferraro (L), Saraceni 2, Moltò 1, Simeonov 9, Quiroga 6, Tencati 4, Barone 1, Cicola (L). DNP Cannistrà, Marquez. Coach. Uriarte.

Piacenza recovers well after its Champions League defeat, by sweeping Vibo thanks mainly to some good serving. Oivanen was named MVP, but the whole team played well.

Michele Grassano (CoprAtlantide Piacenza): “It’s an important victory, especially after the loss in Greece. It was crucial to keep winning in the league, especially considering we had an unusual starting six, we did very well. I’m extremely satisfied with my performance, and also with the ones of some of my teammates, who might have less opportunity to shine”.

Luca Tencati (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “Piacenza completely surprised us. We prepared the game in a way and in the end we had nothing to hold on to. This proves once again that their squad is great and even when they miss two starters, they can win with ease. We have to change our attitude and quickly grab some points to make sure we can face the end of the league without too much pressure”.

SISLEY TREVISO – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 1-3 (25-20, 19-25, 23-25, 22-25) –

SISLEY TREVISO: Carletti 1, Fei 17, Horstink 10, Beretta Thomas, Papi 3, Farina (L), Kohut 12, De Togni 11, Maruotti 12, Garcia 1. DNP Sabbi, Vanin, Cuda. Coach. Piazza.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Wijsmans 16, Henno (L), Parodi 14, Fortunato 8, Nuti, Nikolov 13, Grbic 2, Peda, Mastrangelo 7, Patriarca. DNP Ariaudo, Jeroncic, Pieri. Coach. Giuliani.

Treviso was defeated at home by Cuneo, which moves above Treviso into second place. This put an end to Treviso’s 9 game winning streak.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “We have carried out a particular type of work recently and we knew we could be at risk and so it was. We might still be too Fei-dependant, that was clear in the third and fourth set, but we are giving the others their chance in order to learn from our mistakes. We will surely improve, with Horstink, Kohut and Maruotti and others. We played poorly the type of plays in which we usually do well, like counters and second plays, the first set went well while we did everything right to lose the game afterwards. The Cup game? We certainly didn’t think about it tonight, it would have been wrong, we simply had an off-day after the intense period of late. Congratulations to Cuneo, which played an excellent game”.

Alberto Giuliani (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo) “Positive performance, apart from the first set, in which we did not have the worst of start, though. Our attack was not flowing and Treviso systematically punished us. These are three crucial points, this will give us confidence after a tough period, in which we trained very little and had a few injuries, like Wijmans and Nikolov. This week has not been easy either, but the boys did well on court. We definitely don’t look at the cup game, this encounter has nothing to do with any other one”.

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA 3-2 (25-22, 24-26, 25-23, 20-25, 15-13) –

ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO: De Angelo Freitas 13, Marra (L), Diachkov 22, Dolfo, Van Dijk 15, Visentin 4, Vigilante 1, Belcecchi 1, Paoli 12, Cester, Shumov 13. DNP Sarnari, Marzola. Coach. Moretti.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA: Sivula 16, Rauwerdink 13, Pesenti 1, Krumins, Haldane 3, Forni 10, Buti 6, Travica 6, Gavotto 24, Exiga (L). DNP Tuominen, Molteni, De Luca. Coach. Berruto.

Loreto won its first game after two months of drought. Van Dijk was back in the starting line up as Moretti’s team gathered two crucial points. Led by an unstoppable Gavotto, Monza made a good comeback in the last set but could not pass the finishing line.

Marco Visentin (Esseti Carilo Loreto): “Two deserved points because we did well to get back in the game as we were trailing badly in the fourth. Our great will to get back on track probably made the difference in the difficult moments”.

Mauro Berruto (Acqua Paradiso Monza): “We recently had some positive performances but tonight it was a below-par game and we deserved to lose. We were too tense and not focused enough on the most important aspects of the game, and this led to many mistakes we could have avoided”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-21) –

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Sottile, Della Lunga 7, Lasko 14, Kovar, Curti, Holt 6, Colaci (L), Kromm 12, Howard 7. DNP Groppi, Peslac, Galabinov. Coach. Bagnoli.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA: Savani 14, Cernic, Nemec 1, Botti 3, Ogurcak 3, Sintini 3, Pippi (L), Stokr 16, Fanuli (L), Bovolenta 3. DNP Bucaioni, Petruzzo, Lo Bianco. Coach. Di Pinto.

Standing ovation in the Pala Olimpia as Kromm scored the winning points. Composed in the crunch time, Verona swept a big rival for a playoff spot in Perugia.

Massimo Colaci (Marmi Lanza Verona): “Satisfied with the result, this was a fundamental game for us. We wanted the three points, this is what we have to do to get to the playoffs, win the games against the other teams aiming to make it to the top eight and win our home games. There are still many games to be played but we are in it and tonight we showed how much we want to reach our target”.

Vincenzo Di Pinto (Rpa Luigibacchi Perugia): “We controlled the game but in the clutch time we lacked confidence. The lack of good results lately makes us a bit tense at times. Verona is in good form and in the important moments it played without fear”.

PRISMA TARANTO – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16) –

PRISMA TARANTO: De Oliveira 29, Ricciardello (L), Candellaro 5, Montagna, Cozzi 10, Suxho 7, Rodrigo Pinto 10, Bartman 15. DNP Moretti, Westphal, Elia, Quartarone. Coach. Serniotti.

ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO: Perez Moreno 14, Hernandez 7, Modica, Lampariello (L), Henrique, Sborgia 3, Di Franco 10, Perazzolo 12, Ereu 13, Gradinarov 1. DNP Roberts, Centorame. Coach. Fant.

Cleber took over Rivaldo and registered the numbers of an outside hitter with 29 points (64% in attack, 4 blocks and 1 ace). Taranto ran the risk of extending the game to the fifth set, though.

Roberto Serniotti (Prisma Taranto): “Despite the fact they are bottom, it was not easy to defeat Pineto. They made it hard for us, but I have to thank the boys for their reaction in the third set. We pulled together again and defeated their defense. We have a break now but we’ll keep working in the gym, starting Tuesday. We can’t afford to waste time, our target is the playoffs”.

Henrique Ronaldo (Aran Cucine Abruzzo Pineto): “Taranto played better and deserved to win. But a couple of dubious referee decisions turned things around. It’s difficult as it is to face Taranto, so if the referees hurt us too, it becomes very complicated. We did well to limit Rivaldo, but we could not repeat our good second set.
We’ll keep fighting until we mathematically can. We still believe we can stay up”.
