Finale Scudetto: V-Day

We are just a few hours away from V-Day, the event that will hand in the league title over a single game for the first time in history.

Just three months after the Cup final (won by Trento), Cuneo and Trento will fight again for a title on Sunday 9 May at 6pm in Bologna’s Futurshow Station. A sold-out gym will welcome Cuneo and Trento as both won 3-1 their semi-final series, at the expense of  Treviso and Macerata respectively. They were also the only two teams to win their quarter-finals on a sweep, respectively against Piacenza and Verona.

Emanuele Birarelli (Itas Diatec Trentino): “V-Day will be a great and unique event. This is the first time that the title will be played on one single encounter and I am glad that my team will be in it. We might have had a little bit more of an advantage if It had been played in its traditional format of five games as we would have played home 3 times, but I think this solution can be a good promotional move for volleyball. It will be very tight, it could go either way. Cuneo made it difficult during all season and it will do it again. Grbic does a great job of hiding his intentions and I don’t think knowing him well will be much of an advantage”.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “This final will be a tough game between two excellent teams. No wonder those teams finished first and second in the regular season. Still, Sunday is a new game, everything that happened before must be left behind. Our strength will be k
