And what a nice return home from the Club World Championships. Trentino boasted its trophy as the crowd got another satisfaction with a win over Treviso, one of the only teams that beat them regularly in recent years.
Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “’Everything went well, we did not expect to win it in just three sets, we did it by staying focused during the whole game. Now we have to focus on the Super Cup, a trophy that we have never won yet and that is precisely why everybody is really eager to win it in the team”.
Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “When the result is so clear, there is obviously one team that dominated and one not. As far as we’re concerned, we certainly not had our best game in attack. Trentino played perfectly on the serve, as they usually do, while we did not manage to do the same”.

Marcello Forni (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “I think today’s defeat is due to a rather poor play and attitude right from the first points. It’s one of those games you think you can dominate from the start but you don’t: We faced a very competitive team, they managed to dig very well and counter even better. They made it very difficult in various area of the game, while we did not perform at our usual level. Credit to them, they deserved to win”.
Enrico Cester (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “I think the secret of this victory was in the block-dig combination. The big difference was there, it enabled us to win it: a nice Christmas present, we’re all very happy”.

Looking at today’s results and the others, we can only say ‘mea culpa’ and assume our responsibility. We incredibly lost it after winning the second set, and Modena played with composure. This is a tricky situation, we’ll talk in the club to understand what to do. I confirm that we have been on the look out for a month but right now there isn’t the right person for us”.
Luis Diaz (Casa Modena): “It’s been tough, our opponents played well in the first two sets. An important victory for us which gives us confidence to face the last two games. We served better in the third and fourth set and they found it hard in reception, their attack was consequently easier to stop for us”.

A Christmas atmosphere at the Fontescodella as the fans celebrated on court at the end of the game. It could have been a sad day, or so it seemed as Berruto’s team trailed 2-0 and 14-16 in the third against Roma, but Macerata fought back and won it at the tie-break. A match point was saved before Conte’s two blocks gave Macerata the win.
Mauro Berruto (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “I am satisfied with the win, and with the fact we keep collecting points, but we have not been as good as in other games. A team like ours can’t afford to be as relaxed as in the first two sets. Then, credit to us but also with help from our opponents, we managed to win and get that satisfaction”.
Andrea Giani (coach M. Roma Volley): “We played hard, shame we just failed to go over the hump, especially in the third set, when we did not manage to convert the clutch points and let Macerata back in the game. Same thing happened in the tie-break, we’re going home with just one point, which is not satisfying. When you have certain opportunities, you have to take them”.

Despite a great atmosphere created by the 3000 fans, Piacenza was defeated by Vibo Valentia, which leapfrogs its opponent of the day in the league table.
Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Copra Morpho Piacenza): “This went how we expected, they did the right thing at the right time, while we did not perform well in many departments. First of all, we lacked competitive spirit and we wasted many opportunities in the first set. In the third, we did not fight or try to turn things around. This is a clear step back for us, not a technical one in my opinion. Maybe the only negative thing in terms of play was the difficulty of the spikers. The ball was slow and the spikers too. We stopped to play with pipes at one point. We ruined the period of hard work we had faced. More angry or disappointed? The first one, we were at home, we had opportunities at the end of sets and we did not take them: there is a lack of personality. There is nothing positive to take out of this game. Italian Cup hopes gone? We’ll see, we’ll just focus on the next game”.
Vincenzo Di Dipinto (coach Copra Morpho Piacenza): “We had a game against an excellent team, technically and mentally. We had to play in a certain way and that’s what we did: This is a fantastic result. Simeonov is having a great season and he’s improving at every training session. When he’s in form, he can make the difference and play at this level because he has the physical characteristics to do so”.
