Serie A1 round 11

Trento still unbeaten, it beats Treviso in front of 4.057 fans.

Cuneo keeps up thanks to its win in Verona. Come-back win for Macerata against Roma. First league victory for Forli.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – SISLEY TREVISO 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-20)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 16, Leonardi 1, Birarelli 7, Della Lunga 1, Juantorena 8, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira 3, Sala 1, Sokolov, Colaci (L), Stokr 13, Bari (L). DNP Garcia Pires Ribeiro. Coach. Stoytchev.

SISLEY TREVISO: Szabo, Fei 15, Horstink 2, Kovar 11, Papi, Farina (L), Boninfante, De Togni 3, Bontje 6, Maruotti 7. DNP Gabana, Vanin. Coach. Piazza.

And what a nice return home from the Club World Championships. Trentino boasted its trophy as the crowd got another satisfaction with a win over Treviso, one of the only teams that beat them regularly in recent years.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “’Everything went well, we did not expect to win it in just three sets, we did it by staying focused during the whole game. Now we have to focus on the Super Cup, a trophy that we have never won yet and that is precisely why everybody is really eager to win it in the team”.

Roberto Piazza (Sisley Treviso): “When the result is so clear, there is obviously one team that dominated and one not. As far as we’re concerned, we certainly not had our best game in attack. Trentino played perfectly on the serve, as they usually do, while we did not manage to do the same”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA – RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO 0-3 (25-27, 22-25, 16-25)

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Cetrullo 1, Rauwerdink 4, Forni 5, Molteni 4, Buti 5, Rooney 15, Travica 1, Gavotto 11, Shumov 2, Exiga (L). DNP Pesenti, Krumins, Zito. Coach. Monti.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT SAN GIUSTINO: Zhukouski 2, Schwarz 8, Dias 18, Giovi (L), Finazzi 2, Maric 13, Cester 6, Steuerwald 3. DNP Van Den Dries, Bartoletti, Nikic, Braga, Lo Bianco. Coach. Zanini.

Monza’s run was put to a halt by Cester’s blocks (MVP with 100% in attack and 6 blocks) and the excellent performance from Dias. Still, fourth place is not in danger following today’s results.

Marcello Forni (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “I think today’s defeat is due to a rather poor play and attitude right from the first points. It’s one of those games you think you can dominate from the start but you don’t: We faced a very competitive team, they managed to dig very well and counter even better. They made it very difficult in various area of the game, while we did not perform at our usual level. Credit to them, they deserved to win”.

Enrico Cester (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it San Giustino): “I think the secret of this victory was in the block-dig combination. The big difference was there, it enabled us to win it: a nice Christmas present, we’re all very happy”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – YOGA FORLÌ 1-3 (19-25, 22-25, 25-20, 20-25)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Kovacevic 6, Popelka 11, Kohut 7, Gitto 5, Sottile 3, Pieri (L), Spairani 6, Vujevic 11, Starovic 15, Giombini. DNP Cortina, Labardi, Nonne. Coach. Medei.

YOGA FORLÌ: Falasca 25, Diachkov 8, De Pandis (L), Sintini 2, Kovacevic 17, Oivanen 11, Bovolenta 9. DNP Ricci Petitoni, Bacci, Ainsworth, Bellei. Coach. Molducci.

Forli upset Latina away and got all three points, its first this season.

Giampaolo Medei (coach Andreoli Latina): “I expected something different, with more competitive spirit. I did not manage to convey the right humbleness. Now, we just have to work to gather points again”.

Vigor Bovolenta (Yoga Forlì): “We had been waiting for those three points for a long time, and with Sintini’s arrival, we managed to eventually get off the mark. This is the way to go, game after game, even if many already think we’re doomed to go down”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 0-3 (19-25, 28-30, 20-25)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Latelli, Pajenk 5, Brunner 7, Meoni, Lasko 13, Smerilli (L), Lotman 12, Zingel, Cala Gerardo 1, Bolla, Herpe 10. Coach. Bagnoli.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 5, Henno (L), Parodi 14, Fortunato, Wijsmans 16, Carletti 1, Grbic 1, Peda 11, Nikolov 1, Volkov 9. DNP Galic, Montagna, Patriarca. Coach. Giuliani.

Wijsmans was the MVP in Cuneo’s victory over Verona. 12 blocks, 5 aces, and 49% in attack for the Italian champs as Giuliani could give rest to some of his starters.

Renaud Herpe (Marmi Lanza Verona): “In the second set we were very close to Cuneo and at times, we were even in front, we might have played too much in a hurry at times, which is why we did not manage to perform at our best”.

Luigi Mastrangelo (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “Our team was put together in order to be able to turnover like we did tonight. We’ll start preparing the Super Cup now”.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE – CASA MODENA 1-3 (26-28, 31-29, 18-25, 18-25)

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Milushev, Rak 7, Cozzi 10, Guerra 24, Patriarca, Falaschi 5, Torre 1, Dvoranen 6, Rodriguez 11, Gallotta 4, Cicola (L). DNP Pagano, Guglielmi. Coach. Lattari.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Fabroni, Kooistra 8, Dennis 11, Berezhko 9, Kooy, Casadei 10, Esko 4, Creus Larry 10, Casoli, Diaz 19, Piscopo 5. DNP Ciabattini. Coach. Prandi.

Modena struggled in the first two sets against Castellana Grotte then Dennis settled in, helped by Kooistra that came on for Piscoppo.

Vito Primavera (sport director BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “Shame for the fans and the club, they would have deserved more. Looking at today’s results and the others, we can only say ‘mea culpa’ and assume our responsibility. We incredibly lost it after winning the second set, and Modena played with composure. This is a tricky situation, we’ll talk in the club to understand what to do. I confirm that we have been on the look out for a month but right now there isn’t the right person for us”.

Luis Diaz (Casa Modena): “It’s been tough, our opponents played well in the first two sets. An important victory for us which gives us confidence to face the last two games. We served better in the third and fourth set and they found it hard in reception, their attack was consequently easier to stop for us”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – M. ROMA VOLLEY 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 16-14)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Savani 10, Paparoni (L), Vermiglio 1, Marchiani, Conte 16, Stankovic 10, Cacchiarelli, Omrcen 25, Podrascanin 11. DNP Vadeleux, Van Walle. Coach. Berruto.

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Poey 12, Zaytsev 19, Paolucci, Lebl 10, Uriarte 1, Cesarini (L), Saraceni 10, Bencz 6, Yosifov 13. DNP Tomatis, Corsini, Corsano. Coach. Giani.

A Christmas atmosphere at the Fontescodella as the fans celebrated on court at the end of the game. It could have been a sad day, or so it seemed as Berruto’s team trailed 2-0 and 14-16 in the third against Roma, but Macerata fought back and won it at the tie-break. A match point was saved before Conte’s two blocks gave Macerata the win.

Mauro Berruto (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “I am satisfied with the win, and with the fact we keep collecting points, but we have not been as good as in other games. A team like ours can’t afford to be as relaxed as in the first two sets. Then, credit to us but also with help from our opponents, we managed to win and get that satisfaction”.

Andrea Giani (coach M. Roma Volley): “We played hard, shame we just failed to go over the hump, especially in the third set, when we did not manage to convert the clutch points and let Macerata back in the game. Same thing happened in the tie-break, we’re going home with just one point, which is not satisfying. When you have certain opportunities, you have to take them”.

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 0-3 (22-25, 22-25, 18-25)

COPRA MORPHO PIACENZA: Popp 3, Marra (L), Gonzalez 4, Ruiz 4, Perazzolo, Nilsson 14, Massari 1, Zlatanov 11, Holt 3, Tencati 5, Boschi. DNP Piano. Coach. Lorenzetti.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Rivera Caamano 6, Coscione 1, Suljagic 3, Anderson 9, Kindgard, Simeonov 24, Ananiev, Barone, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 10. DNP Ferraro, Feroleto, Baroti. Coach. Di Pinto.

Despite a great atmosphere created by the 3000 fans, Piacenza was defeated by Vibo Valentia, which leapfrogs its opponent of the day in the league table.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Copra Morpho Piacenza): “This went how we expected, they did the right thing at the right time, while we did not perform well in many departments. First of all, we lacked competitive spirit and we wasted many opportunities in the first set. In the third, we did not fight or try to turn things around. This is a clear step back for us, not a technical one in my opinion. Maybe the only negative thing in terms of play was the difficulty of the spikers. The ball was slow and the spikers too. We stopped to play with pipes at one point. We ruined the period of hard work we had faced. More angry or disappointed? The first one, we were at home, we had opportunities at the end of sets and we did not take them: there is a lack of personality. There is nothing positive to take out of this game. Italian Cup hopes gone? We’ll see, we’ll just focus on the next game”.

Vincenzo Di Dipinto (coach Copra Morpho Piacenza): “We had a game against an excellent team, technically and mentally. We had to play in a certain way and that’s what we did: This is a fantastic result. Simeonov is having a great season and he’s improving at every training session. When he’s in form, he can make the difference and play at this level because he has the physical characteristics to do so”.
