Monza beat Modena 3-1 in the playoffs quarter-final game 1. A victory built at the net with 13 blocks and a good dig and reception. MVP Travica.

Angel Dennis (Casa Modena): “We’ve done it all ourselves in the end, for better for worse. In the first sets, we didn’t play, we had our chance to seal the last one more than once but couldn’t do it. Now we have to redeem ourselves at home, and tie the series: it will be a different game in three days, we’ll wait for them and try to do better”.

Dragan Travica (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “It’s not been easy by any means: the first two sets were really good, they played with great determination and did not give up. In the end, the fourth set was decided on details. I think both team showed character and a good level of play. I am optimist, the whole team is, and we’re very excited, we proved twice in a row that we can win it, and now we feel we can make ours this quarter final”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – SISLEY TREVISO 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-22)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Savani 16, Paparoni (L), Vermiglio 1, Stankovic 5, Martino 10, Omrcen 14, Podrascanin 8. DNP Marchiani, Conte, Vadeleux, Van Walle, Cacchiarelli. Coach. Berruto.

SISLEY TREVISO: Elgarten, Szabo, Fei 13, Horstink 5, Kovar 4, Papi 4, Farina (L), Boninfante 2, De Togni, Bontje 9, Maruotti 6, Bjelica 3. DNP Vanin. Coach. Piazza.

Macerata managed to beat Treviso for the first time this season taking a 1-0 lead in the playoffs quarter-finals. Omrcen was back and already in good form after three weeks out due to an ankle injury.

Mauro Berruto (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “I am happy first of all because everybody was fit to play tonight, unfortunately this is not something that happened very often this season. I think the team showed it could play good volleyball when we had the whole squad available. I have to say a word on Omrcen, he worked extremely hard to be ready for this game, and he had a huge influence, he showed a great attitude, like the rest of the team I have to say. The determination with which we started the game made the difference, you could already feel a special atmosphere  in the changing room. Still, there’s a long way to go: we need three wins and we only have one”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Treviso): “When you make mistakes, even in simple situations against such a strong team, it’s very difficult to obtain a positive result, especially with this level of reception. The playoffs is a totally different tournament, tonight’s defeat does not affect our chances but it’s obvious that we’ll have to get on court with a different attitude on Sunday if we want to do well”.
