Round 5; minute silence on all courts for Simoncelli. Modena stays top, but Padova push it to the tie-break

On all courts of the Serie A, a minute silence was observed to honour the memory of Marco Simoncelli, who tragically passed away in the Malaysia grand prix.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO – ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-20)

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 17, Birarelli 6, Della Lunga, Juantorena 12, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira 1, Brinkman 2, Lanza, Colaci (L), Stokr 12, Bari (L), Burgsthaler 4. DNP Sokolov. Coach. Stoytchev.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 5, Rauwerdink 7, Cozzi 2, Bartoletti, Conte 11, Finazzi 2, Petkovic, Giovi (L), Sammelvuo, Urnaut 11. DNP Mc Kibbin, Tholse, Lo Bianco. Coach. De Giorgi.

Trentino was right back on track following Monday’s loss against Macerata by sweeping San Giustino, who was beaten without getting a point for the second consecutive match. MVP: Kaziyski.

Raphael Vieira De Oliveira (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We have been aggressive from the start, we managed to put pressure at the net and with the serve. And then our reception has been so accurate that it was easy to set as I wished to. San Giustino is a good team but they miss a true outside hitter and we took advantage”.

Sebastian Creus (Energy Resources San Giustino): “We lacked character to keep up with Trento’s rhythm. We are still looking for balance and it’s difficult to find it against such an opponent, because they don’t give anything away. Shame because we did not serve that badly but we struggled in every other area of the game”.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3-1 (26-24, 25-19, 13-25, 25-22)

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Aleksiev 2, Rossini (L), Zhukouski 2, Nikic 11, Forni 5, Molteni, Buti 8, Rooney 18, De Cecco 2, Gavotto 17, Shumov 3, Roumeliotis. DNP Ciabattini, Mor. Coach. Zanini.

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rivera Caamano 12, Hardy-Dessources 8, Gitto, Sottile 1, Jarosz 9, De Pandis (L), Troy 10, Galabinov, Roca Borrero 12, Cester 6, Fragkos. DNP Tailli. Coach. Prandi.

Very tight encounter between Monza and Latina. Zanini’s team came out on top as it was the first time Latina went back home empty handed.

Alain Roca (Andreoli Latina): “They have played with consistency, while we would have needed more counter attacks. We have found it hard against them, they deserve the victory”.

Mauro Gavotto (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “In my opinion, we did an excellent job in the serving and blocking areas in the first two sets. We faded a bit in the third and then after the 8-0 run it was impossible to recover. We did well to react in the fourth and seal the game”.

FIDIA PADOVA – CASA MODENA 2-3 (25-19, 19-25, 25-23, 29-31, 15-17)

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Gonzalez 12, Tiberti, Cricca, Koshikawa 1, Giannotti, Rosso 17, De Marchi 12, Simeonov 24, Semenzato 10, Suljagic 8, Zingaro (L). DNP Schwarz. Coach. Montagnani.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 12, Dennis 22, Carletti, Kooy 2, Yosifov 17, Esko 4, Martino 6, Casoli, Anderson 18. DNP Catellani, Nemec, Bellei. Coach. Bagnoli.

Modena stays top of the league but was pushed to the limits by Padova. The tie-break was full of emotions: in the end Dennis’ fantasy and the solid Yosifov made the difference.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We’d have been quite happy to learn we’d get a point before the game. But given how it went, we can be full of regrets. They underestimated us at the beginning and we played a great game. But in the fourth set, we made two really bad mistakes that we can’t afford in such situation. Now we’ll focus on the Belluno game, another battle for us against a team which will fight for the three points”.

Mikko Esko (Casa Modena): “We started off lacking intensity, while Padova was making it very difficult for us thanks to their serve. Then we managed to get back in it but there were moments I thought we’d go home without any point. That should serve as a lesson for the future”.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 17-25, 15-7)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Ammerman, Marra (L), Kral 8, Sidibé 1, Papi 18, Zhekov 1, Nikolov 23, Massari, Zlatanov 14, Holt 2, Tencati 6, Penchev. DNP Marretta. Coach. Lorenzetti.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca 2, Coscione 3, Cernic 8, Diaz 14, Grassano, Rak, Klapwijk 25, Barone 7, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 8. DNP Mignolo, Bratoev, Bonetti. Coach. Blengini.

Piacenza and Vibo Valentia went all the way to the tie-break in which Zlatanov led his team to victory.

Samuele Papi (Copra Elior Piacenza): “We nearly won the first set after a great come back, we did very well in the third set, in which we recovered from a big deficit. We hoped to win the fourth and seal the game, we probably should have believed in it more. We reorganized ourselves in the fifth set, sorting out what had not worked in the previous set. These are two points that will give us a boost. But we have to realise that each game is a battle and that we’ll need to fight from start to finish”.

Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “This was a very intense game, full of long rallies. When Piacenza hit the serve hard, we failed to impose ourselves on high balls and consequently we did not attack well. They played excellently, especially in the fifth set, which they have dominated from start to finish. They deserve the victory”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Pajenk, Savani 19, Exiga (L), Parodi 12, Stankovic 9, Kovar, Travica 1, Omrcen 23, Podrascanin 9. DNP Monopoli, Van Walle. Coach. Giuliani.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 9, Henno (L), Ngapeth 13, Fortunato 6, Wijsmans 18, Vissotto Neves 19, Grbic 5, Caceres, Patriarca, Baranowicz. DNP Van Lankvelt, Rossi, Pieri. Coach. Gulinelli.

Five sets and more than two hours and a half of play for the joy of a sold out crowd in the Fontescodella arena. The hosts eventually snatched it  and made it six wins in a row, including the champions League victory over Novosibirsk. Igor Ormcen was named MVP as he scored 23 points.

Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube Banca Marche): “A game that will be a cliché of those we’ll play against the top teams. The stats tells us it’s not been such a bad game after all: in games like this the dig is what makes the difference, and we did a good job on a couple of clutch plays. Once again, the team showed its heart and character that helps to find the right solutions in the difficult moments. Having said that, we’ll have to improve a lot our approach to the game, because tonight our beginning of game was not exactly perfect”.

Flavio Gulinelli (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “A bad game, with many mistakes from both teams, the only positive was the competitive spirit of the two squads. We have been second best on various fundamentals, especially on the serve, which proved lethal today. We have to accept the result, this was away from home against a very strong team, which is proving to be in great shape in this beginning of season”.

M. ROMA VOLLEY – SISLEY BELLUNO 3-2 (25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 15-10)

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 4, Passier 2, Paolucci, Paparoni (L), Maruotti 1, Zaytsev 31, Boninfante, Bencz 9, Sabbi 22, Cisolla 7, Bjelica 5. DNP Puliti, Corsano. Coach. Giani.

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz, Szabò 1, Fei 20, Horstink 18, Dolfo 4, Farina (L), Kohut 6, Curti 8, De Togni 4, Suxho 2, Antonov 1, Ogurcak 1. DNP Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

Roma gathered its first home win of the season and confirmed the progress made last Sunday against Vibo Valentia. Still, there is a bit of disappointment for not having finished Belluno off sooner after two good first sets.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “When you allow teams like Roma to impose their game, it’s lethal. That’s what we did in the first two sets, but then we had a great reaction and I have to say the boys did a great job to get back even when the deficit was big. We will look at this point as a rather positive result”.

Ivan Zaytsev (M.Roma Volley): “Shame, we could have got a three-point victory if we had not made a few silly mistakes in the third and fourth set. We wanted the win, we knew we could beat this team and we managed to play more freely. We needed a good result following the victory over Vibo and at times we played good volleyball, although we still have too many ups and down”.
