The Italian and World Champions of Trento put an end to Modena’s five game winning streak with an outstanding performance. In front of a beautiful sold out crowd of 5000 supporters all dressed in yellow, Trentino showed all its quality putting maximum pressure on Modena with its trio of spikers Juantorena-Kazinski-Stokr and with superb hard serves. MVP: Jan Stokr.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “We have to congratulate Trento, it proved again how strong a team that is, they dominated us from start to finish. They really did a great job. We are a new team that has to work a lot, there is a big difference between us and Trento”.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Itas Diatec Trentino): “I am very happy because we played excellent volleyball. When we serve like that, and we play as fluently as this, it becomes difficult to beat us. I expected a tougher game, credit to the team for making it look easy”.

MONDO Super Cup 2011

Jan Stokr’s memory

Top volleyball is back in Sardegna. On Tuesday, November 1 in Cagliari’s Pala Rockefeller arena, Trentino will take on Cuneo with the Mondo Super Cup at stake.

One of the players that has memories from the Island is Jan Stokr, who played one season in Cagliari in 2005-06. He scored an amazing 437 points for the team coached by Massimo Dagioni although that was not enough to stay up.

“It will be a great feeling to go back to Sardegna – said Trentino’s outside hitter – I’m not just saying it like that, it is in Cagliari that I have had my first year as starter in the Serie A1, and despite the fact we went down, that’s when I realised I could do Ok in this amazing and difficult league. We will play in the Arena where we used to play our home games, hopefully this will help me feel comfortable before the others in what is a particular gym. In Sardegna, I really enjoyed my time, beyond the mere sport aspect. And my wife loved it even more because she enjoyed the see side, the beach of Cagliari while I was training and playing. This was the first experience in a city on the coast for my family, it was great but I have to admit that, given my character, I prefer mountains so I found my ideal place in Trento”.
