Round 9. Ravenna’s first triumph in Piacenza. Trentino wins in Roma and stays top.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA – CMC RAVENNA 0-3 (23-25, 18-25, 17-25)

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Ammerman 1, Marra (L), Kral 1, Sidibé, Papi 4, Zhekov, Nikolov 16, Massari 2, Zlatanov 10, Holt 4, Tencati 4, Penchev. DNP Marretta. Coach. Lorenzetti.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 9, Corvetta 2, Sirri 4, Tabanelli (L), Verhanneman, Quiroga 13, Moro 20, Brunner 10, Gruszka. DNP Leonardi, Bendandi, Gallosti, Roberts. Coach. Babini.

Ravenna registered its first win of the season on a sweep in Piacenza.

Antonio Babini (coach CMC Ravenna): “We did a good job, we really could not afford to lose this one. We won it and dominated, this will give us a great boost to keep battling to stay up. Some have suggested we should wave the white flag, but we have no intention to give up. Congratulations to the boys that never put their heads down , not even in the most difficult moments of this beginning of season”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “We had prepared the game well but things went all wrong. These are the kind of days that start badly and finish even worse. Let’s focus on the work we have to do from tomorrow. Hard work in the only thing that can get us out of this situation. The boys always train with maximum intensity during the week, but when we get on court, we lose our way. Let’s focus on the Treviso game”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-14)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rivera Caamano 8, Hardy-dessources 5, Gitto 7, Sottile 4, Jarosz 13, De Pandis (L), Troy, Roca Borrero 16. DNP Guemart, Tailli, Galabinov, Cester, Fragkos. Coach. Prandi.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca, Coscione, Cernic 11, Diaz 3, Grassano, Rak 10, Klapwijk 12, Barone 6, Fanuli (L), Nikolov. DNP Mignolo, Banderò, Olli. Coach. Blengini.

Latina defeated Vibo in three sets and took all three points.

Silvano Prandi (coach Andreoli Latina): “In the first set, Roca and Jarosz’ serve allowed us to get back in it and step up a level. Vibo had beaten Macerata and played face to face with Trento. We served with great consistency, which made things easier for us”.

Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We have not been as brilliant as in other occasions, especially at the net and in dig. We still have a chance to make it in the Italian Cup. Each one of us knows what went wrong, especially in the attitude”.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 1-3 (22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-27)

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 10, Rauwerdink 15, Mc Kibbin, Cozzi, Bartoletti 17, Finazzi 7, Petkovic, Tholse, Giovi (L), Urnaut 11. DNP Lo Bianco, Sammelvuo. Coach. De Giorgi.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 15, Kosmina, Ter Horst, Meoni, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 8, Zingel 11, Kromm 18, Postiglioni, Gasparini 18. DNP Calderan, Bolla, Casarin. Coach. Bagnoli.

Another loss for San Giustino against Verona in a clash between teams standing towards the bottom of the league table. Robert Kromm MVP.

Andrea Bartoletti (Energy Resources San Giustino): “In the fourth set, the clutch one, they played better than us. In the decisive moments, they made it more difficult for us than we did for them. This was a hard-fought game, the difference was not that big. We have a bad position in the table but there is time to work and turn things around”.

Bruno Bagnoli (coach Marmi Lanza Verona): “We had managed to take three important points in Ravenna, and we did it again today in San Giustino. This is a great satisfaction for us. We did not do that well in some areas of the game, but we did a good job in the fourth to get back in the game”.

SISLEY BELLUNO – CASA MODENA 2-3 (25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 20-25, 13-15)

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz, Szabò, Fei 24, Horstink 14, Dolfo 1, Farina (L), Kohut 9, Curti, De Togni 8, Suxho 6, Antonov, Ogurcak 11. DNP Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 11, Diachkov, Dennis 25, Carletti, Bellei 3, Yosifov 1, Esko 4, Martino 7, Casoli 5, Anderson 9, Piscopo 9. DNP Catellani. Coach. Bagnoli.

Modena won in come back fashion in the tie-break in Belluno 13-15 with one last controversial Fei serve that was given out.

Daniele Bagnoli (coach Casa Modena): “Shame we won it on a Fei serve given out when it was in, but apart from this last episode, we won a game that neither team played at their best. We managed to get back from 2-1 down thanks to a good run of serves, and in the fifth as well we used the serve to cut the deficit, although we ran the risk of losing our advantage at 14-10. This shows a lack of consistency, I can’t be satisfied with this, we have to improve, they have been better than us in many areas of the game, we were saved by that last call and the good contribution from the bench. But regardless of how they came about, these are two crucial points”.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “We should have won 3-0 but instead we lost it at the tie-break. We had played well, but we lost it in some key moments like in the second set with two terrible aces from Dennis with the help of the net and a contested one from Fei, just like the one that occurred at the end, which could have changed the outcome. We still have to improve both individually and as a team, I am convinced we have a big margin for improvement, although today we wasted a great opportunity. Fei had a great game, he got us back in it in the end single handed, everyone should follow the example of our captain. We are obviously disappointed to be left with only one point despite having dominated the game”.

FIDIA PADOVA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 2-3 (25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 24-26, 9-15)

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 15, Gonzalez 4, Tiberti, Cricca 8, Koshikawa 1, Rosso 1, De Marchi 13, Simeonov 24, Semenzato 10, Suljagic 1, Zingaro (L). DNP Giannotti. Coach. Montagnani.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Henno, Ngapeth 10, Fortunato 2, Van Lankvelt, Wijsmans 19, Vissotto Neves 13, Grbic 5, Caceres 14, Vesely 4, Rossi 2, Pieri (L), Baranowicz. DNP Mastrangelo, Patriarca. Coach. Gulinelli.

The game between Padova and Cuneo turned into a battle from the first minutes. In the end, Cuneo had the better in the fifth set.

Paolo Montagnani (coach Fidia Padova): “We did our best today, we played with great competitive spirit, Cuneo had to fight hard to get back on track. I’d love to see the team play like that against Macerata too. Vissotto had a big influence when he came on”.

Flavio Gulinelli (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We’re satisfied with those two points taken in Padova. We knew this would not be easy and at the start of the game we really struggled. We had also decided to begin the game with an unusual starting six. The hosts have been very aggressive but we did a good job not to lose our focus”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 23-25, 15-10)

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Exiga (L), Parodi 12, Stankovic 12, Kovar 14, Monopoli, Van Walle 4, Travica 1, Omrcen 26, Podrascanin 13. DNP Pajenk, Randazzo. Coach. Giuliani.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rossini (L), Nikic 19, Forni, Molteni 8, Buti 10, De Cecco 6, Gavotto 3, Shumov 12, Roumeliotis 11. DNP Ciabattini, Kaszap, Mor. Coach. Zanini.

Without Cristian Savani, injured, the hosts lined up Jiri Kovar, while Monza was left without Rooney at the last minute as he got injured in the morning training session. Macerata won it in five sets with Podrascanin MVP (13 points and five blocks).

Alberto Giuliani (coach Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “I am not happy at all with the point lost, but the performance was not that bad, considering the little time we had to train, we could not expect an outstanding display. We were tired and lost our composure at one point, but I would have liked to see more character from the boys. There are two things I always ask the boys, two things we can’t do without: the first is the attitude, which means we should never give up, and we missed this aspect today, conceding many straight blocks, and today we made too many mistakes”.

Emanuele Zanini (coach Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “We won an important tie-break after two sets lost, although both were tight. I am extremely satisfied and proud of my boys, because the team I lined up today deserved this extremely valuable point, which they earned thanks to great character and will”.

M. ROMA VOLLEY – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (13-25, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25)

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 6, Passier 3, Paolucci, Paparoni (L), Maruotti 12, Zaytsev 22, Boninfante, Bencz 2, Sabbi 12. DNP Antonucci, Puliti, Corsano, Cisolla. Coach. Giani.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 14, Birarelli 13, Della Lunga 2, Juantorena 22, Zygadlo, Vieira De Oliveira, Sokolov 6, Djuric 8, Colaci (L), Stokr 7, Bari (L). DNP Brinkman, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.

Once again, Trentino played top volleyball to get rid of Roma in the capital, 3-1. The class of the champions was evident in the important moments of the game. MVP: Juantorena.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “We got off to an excellent start in the first set, we maintained a high level of play. Roma stepped up from the second, so much so that after the third set I was afraid this could go all the way to the tie-break. We have been brilliant in the fourth set, hitting the serve hard and putting Roma under pressure. In the end, we took three important points”.

Andrea Giani (coach M.Roma Volley): “Shame we had this beginning of game, we were too shy and were dominated. But then we fought back, keeping it tight against the Trentino champs, we managed to play our best volleyball”.
