Round 25, Roma safe. Belluno locks up fourth place. Verona, San Giustino and Padova to play to stay up in the last round.

ANDREOLI LATINA – CMC RAVENNA 2-3 (19-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 12-15)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rivera Caamano 19, Pantaleon, Gitto 10, Sottile 1, Jarosz 19, De Pandis (L), Guemart, Troy 1, Diachkov 17, Cester 10, Fragkos. DNP Tailli, Galabinov. Coach. Prandi.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 10, Leonardi, Corvetta 3, Sirri 10, Tabanelli (L), Verhanneman, Plesko 1, Moro 20, Brunner 6, Roberts 18. DNP Bendandi, Gallosti, Gruszka. Coach. Babini.

On a sad day for the club as GM Roberto Rondoni passed away, Ravenna gathered its third victory of the season which coincided with Latina’s third consecutive tie-break loss.

Daniele Sottile (Andreoli Latina): “We did not get on court motivated for various reasons. We have to make do with this point and try to maintain this position. Everything is possible in Trento, like in the first leg. It would obviously be better to finish 8th for the playoffs”.

Stefano Moro (CMC Ravenna): “We did everything we could to keep playing at our best, now we have one last home game against Belluno. It’s a sad day for volleyball, be that for the Latina fans who lost their GM, their leader, but also for us, who knew well Vigor Bovolenta”.

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO – FIDIA PADOVA 0-3 (23-25, 23-25, 21-25)

ENERGY RESOURCES SAN GIUSTINO: Creus Larry 10, Rauwerdink 4, Patak 11, Mc Kibbin 3, Cozzi, Finazzi 6, Giovi (L), Sammelvuo, Urnaut 13. DNP Petkovic, Tholse, Lo Bianco. Coach. Held.

FIDIA PADOVA: Garghella (L), Schwarz 13, Gonzalez 3, Tiberti, Cricca 4, Koshikawa, De Marchi 20, Simeonov 17, Hein, Semenzato 6, Zingaro (L). DNP Giannotti, Rosso. Coach. Montagnani.

The guests dominated the encounter in San Giustino and came away with a straight set victory. Padova is now just one point from San Giustino, which keeps the fight to stay up totally open.

Claudio Sciurpa (President Energy Resources San Giustino): “I really think the players came on court thinking the game was already won. The approach was bad, Rauwerdink and Urnaut had a very poor game. They seemed to be training. Padova did not win, we’re the ones who lost it. We made it complicated for ourselves”.

Sebastian Schwarz (Fidia Padova): “This was an important victory for us today, but we’re already focused on next Sunday’s encounter against Roma, it’s a final for us but if we play like today we can win it”.

SISLEY BELLUNO – LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22)

SISLEY BELLUNO: Abdelaziz, Fei 20, Horstink 13, Dolfo, Farina (L), Kohut 8, De Togni 10, Suxho 3, Antonov, Ogurcak 14. DNP Szabò, Curti, Sorato. Coach. Piazza.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello 2, Savani 8, Exiga (L), Parodi 10, Stankovic 13, Kovar 4, Monopoli, Van Walle 1, Travica 4, Omrcen 14, Podrascanin 7. DNP Pajenk, Randazzo. Coach. Giuliani.

Top table clash between Belluno and Macerata. 2500 fans witnessed a great game that the hosts won 3-1 with De Togni MVP and Fei shining. Thanks to this victory, Belluno secured fourth place in the regular season.

Roberto Piazza (coach Sisley Belluno): “First of all I’d like to say a word on Vigor Bovolenta, who gave everything for volleyball. It’s a huge loss for all of us. As for the game, we proved the Trento loss was just a one off and that we’re well alive and kicking. I said to the boys I’d love to earn this fourth place ourselves without waiting for the results of the other courts. They did a great job against one of the top teams of this league. Now with the help of the great Belluno fans, we can do well in the playoffs quarter-finals. We are hungry for more”.

Jean Francois Exiga (Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “We did not play our best volleyball, Belluno was better than us today. We only did well in flashes and they deservedly won. We struggled against their good dig-block organization. In the last two weeks we increased the load of work in the gym to be at our best for the playoffs and we might have paid the price today. Now we have to focus on defending the second position but to do so we’ll have to play better than that”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 2-3 (25-20, 34-32, 23-25, 15-25, 15-17) – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Mastrangelo 8, Henno (L), Ngapeth 18, Fortunato 8, Wijsmans 21, Vissotto Neves 23, Grbic 2, Caceres 1, Patriarca. DNP Van Lankvelt, Rossi, Pieri, Baranowicz. Coach. Placì.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Kral 7, Papi 11, Nikolov 24, Massari, Kampa 3, Zlatanov 34, Holt 1, Tencati 13. DNP Sidibé, Zhekov, De Oliveira, Binaghi. Coach. Monti.

Cuneo did not take advantage of Macerata’s defeat to catch them up in second place. They were beaten at the tie-break by Piacenza despite an early 2-0 lead on the scoreboard. MVP: Zlatanov.

Camillo Placì (coach Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We were not composed when we needed to be and against experienced and in-form teams like Piacenza you pay the price. We had the chance to seal it in the third set 3-0, but we did not manage, then Piacenza played very well in the second part of the game, when it mattered most. They played better and won, we had our chance and did not take it”.

Vladimir Nikolov (Copra Elior Piacenza): “It was a great feeling for me and you could see that, because my performance in the first set was very poor. I needed half hour to recover from the emotion. This means the Cuneo fans appreciated what I did here for three years. I think the key was that we managed to hold off their serve from the third set on”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – CASA MODENA 2-3 (25-27, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 13-15)

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Falasca 11, Coscione 4, Serafini, Cernic 16, Diaz 19, Grassano, Rak 12, Klapwijk 8, Barone 7, Fanuli (L), Nikolov 3. DNP Mignolo, Banderò. Coach. Blengini.

CASA MODENA: Manià (L), Sala 14, Kadziewicz 11, Dennis 21, Carletti 1, Bellei 3, Esko 2, Martino 7, Casoli 2, Anderson 24. DNP Catellani. Coach. Bagnoli.

Thrilling game between Vibo and Modena, hard-fought in each of the five sets. Vibo Valentia got back from a two-nil deficit to force a tie-break that the guests eventually won. MVP: Anderson.

Manuel Coscione (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We played an excellent first set, then in the second set we struggled. After that we reacted with pride, we stepped up a notch, we played a good game that was eventually decided on a couple of plays and thanks to the powerful serve of Dennis, which is just impossible to receive”.

Matteo Martino (Casa Modena): “Vibo proved again it was a great team, it was extremely difficult for us here. We started off brightly then at 2-0, they responded as well by getting back in it, then things got complicated. We deserve credit for snatching it, while they definitely deserve the point they got”.

MARMI LANZA VERONA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (14-25, 25-21, 18-25, 23-25)

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Popp 4, Kosmina, Ter Horst 5, Calderan, Meoni 1, Smerilli (L), Patriarca 8, Zingel 11, Casarin 1, Kromm 15, Gasparini 19. DNP Postiglioni. Coach. Bagnoli.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Birarelli 5, Della Lunga, Juantorena 18, Zygadlo 1, Lanza 8, Sokolov 1, Djuric 9, Colaci (L), Stokr 27, Bari (L), Burgsthaler 1. DNP Kaziyski, Vieira De Oliveira, Brinkman. Coach. Stoytchev.

The derby went Trento’s way against a Verona team that is fighting to get the points missing to make sure they stay up in the division. These points did not come from a game in which they thought they could make it, winning the second set and being 21-18 up in the third. MVP: Stokr.

Stefano Patriarca (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We have been courageous, we tried our best in every single point and we have been close from snatching a point against a team full of stars”

Radostin Stoytchev (Coach Itas DiatecTrentino): We really wanted to do well, first of all for the fans that came in numbers to the PalaOlimpia arena despite the fact this would not change anything for our league position, and then to make sure the fight to stay up would be fair. I can only be satisfied with this four-set victory, we played good volleyball with another new line-up, which we had not tried much in training. We did well in the difficult situations, we showed character and determination when things got complicated. I have to praise Lanza, he handled very well some difficult plays and did great in reception, even though Verona served a lot on him”.

M. ROMA VOLLEY – ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 25-15)

M. ROMA VOLLEY: Lebl 9, Paparoni (L), Maruotti 10, Zaytsev 28, Boninfante 4, Bencz 4, Puliti, Sabbi 9, Cisolla 2, Bjelica 9. DNP Passier, Paolucci, Corsano. Coach. Giani.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA BRIANZA: Rossini (L), Zhukouski, Mckniff 3, Conte 17, Nikic 5, Buti 11, Rooney 2, De Cecco, Gavotto 16, Shumov 3. DNP Ciabattini, Forni, Roumeliotis. Coach. Zanini.

Zaytsev and co offered a top class performance against Monza to make sure Roma will stay up and qualify for the playoffs at the same time. As for Monza, this is a sixth consecutive defeat as the Gabana family announced this week it would not be involved in volleyball anymore from next season.

Gabriele Maruotti (M.Roma Volley): “I have only got back in training four days ago, and I should not even have played. Fortunately, even if it still hurt, my ankle was fine, and the adrenaline did the rest. We really needed a game like this. We had been working very hard in the gym but the results were not going our way. I can finally say that the hard work has paid off. Our target was to secure safety before the last game against Padova. We did it and now we’ll be able to play the last few games with less pressure on”

Emanuele Zanini (Acqua Paradiso Monza Brianza): “The news that Giulia Gabana was going to leave volleyball caught us by surprise and it was not easy to get on court with motivation. We tried to give everything we had. The European Cup exit probably had an influence too. We played well for three sets, then we lost our way in the fourth”.
