The sold-out crowd in Piacenza lived the dream until the halfway point of the second set. Then, the dark and two injuries: Samuele Papi and Davide Marra (with Buffon’s shirt). In the last two sets, Piacenza struggled in dig and made too many mistakes on the serve. Dominated in the first set, Macerata reacted with Zaytsev (MVP) and celebrate the joint top position in the league as Trento was defeated.
Luca Monti (Coach Copra Elior Piacenza): “It’s not easy to lose two players in the same game and maintain a good rhythm with the same mentality. In the first set, we made it hard for Macerata’s reception and had the better of Giuliani’s team. Then, we had problems on the serve and it was therefore complicated to turn things around once Macerata had control”.
Alen Pajenk (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “There was nothing we could do in the first set, tactically Piacenza played much better than us. In the second set, we were trailing by four points, but at the end of it we started to serve better and everything begin to click. Now we’re tied with Trento but that does not mean anything: this will be the clash against them that will define who ends up in first place”.
