The remake of the 2010 final went to Dinamo Moscow. The Russian capital proved once again to be a little fortress as Trentino was defeated at the tie-break and will have to win the return game as well as a Golden set to go through. Three years ago, Trento had already lost its first ever game in the competition in Moscow. This is also the second consecutive defeat for Stoytchev’s team following last weekend’s loss in Modena. Still, signs of a possible recovery were visible in the first leg as Trento came back from 2-0 down to force the fifth set. Besides Juantorena was back at a good level with 16 points and 46%. Kurek and Kruglov combined for 44 points for the Russians.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Trentino Diatec): “In the first two sets, we did not manage to play our game, maybe we were not ready to fight against such an effective team, especially in dig. Then, we stepped up, with concentration and determination. Our big disappointment is for the fifth set: we did play at a good level but let our opponent escape on a couple of occasions with two plays with could have handled better. Then it became impossible to come back. Congratulations to Dinamo, who played a great game and congratulations to Kruglov, we just couldn’t stop him. We are definitely in a difficult situation now because Moscow will have less pressure than us, but that’s not the first time we are in such a situation and I am sure we will find the human and technical resources to turn things around and go through”.

ACH VOLLEY LJUBLJANA – BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO 0-3 (23-25, 17-25, 23-25)
