CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO 1-3 (22-25, 25-21, 19-25, 18-25)

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA: Lampariello, Pajenk 3, Savani 4, Zaytsev 18, Parodi 8, Stankovic 4, Monopoli 2, Henno (L), Travica 2, Starovic 4, Kooy 10, Podrascanin 11. Coach. Giuliani.

ITAS DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 15, Sintini, Birarelli 6, Juantorena 17, Vieira De Oliveira 3, Uchikov, Lanza, Djuric 10, Colaci (L), Stokr 19, Chrtiansky Jr, Bari (L). DNP Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.

In the big match of the weekend, Trentino came back from Macerata with all three points. This is the second defeat of the season for the Italian champions which, just like the first one against Modena, means they lose the first place in the league table. Trento proved extremely effective in the block-dig area while Stokr led the way with 19 points and 67% in attack (MVP).

Alberto Giuliani (coach Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata): “Trento deserved the win, they played much better than us especially in the block-dig area, which made the difference. I tried to make some changes to disturb them, but I have not been successful. I really feel sorry for the fans and the fact we lose our first place. Let’s remain confident though because we have another big game on Wednesday in Cuneo, a crucial one for our season”.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Itas Diatec Trentino): “It’s never easy to win in Macerata, the fact we did it means we had a great performance. Tonight we not only did well tactically but also in the other little things you need when you want a great result, like some digs without going for the block. We are obviously very happy, we have to keep playing like that”.

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-17)

BRE BANCA LANNUTTI CUNEO: Antonov 7, Ngapeth 11, De Pandis (L), Wijsmans 4, Kohut 3, Grbic 1, Della Lunga 9, Sokolov 14, Abdelaziz, Rossi 3. DNP Marchisio, Galliani. Coach. Piazza.

MARMI LANZA VERONA: Ter Horst 6, Gotsev 5, Meoni, Bolla 4, Pesaresi (L), Centomo (L), Gavotto 3, Peacock 1, Viafara 6, Fedrizzi 11. DNP Rak, Kosmina, De Marchi. Coach. Bagnoli.

In an arena full of masks thanks to the carnival initiative, Cuneo swept Verona as Dore Della Lunga was named MVP.

Ter Horst (Marmi Lanza Verona): “We got off to a good start, we were ahead in the scoreboard for a while in the first set. I think Wijsmans and Grbic turned things around when they came on. Today’s game reflects a bit our season: we can’t seem to be able to seal it when we are ahead”.

Dore Della Lunga (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We started off poorly both the first and second set but we have to look at the positive. Thanks to Wout and Nikola, who came on, but also the whole team, we managed to catch-up and win the sets. Things have been easier in the third, Verona made a lot of mistakes. This win is important for various reasons: our league position and our confidence”.

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE – COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 25-21)

BCC-NEP CASTELLANA GROTTE: Ricciardello, Paparoni (L), Falaschi 6, Dolfo 4, Sabbi 26, Ferreira 12, Yosifov 9, Cester 10, Casoli 5. DNP Menzel, Elia, Ferreira. Coach. Gulinelli.

COPRA ELIOR PIACENZA: Marra (L), Corvetta 2, Papi 1, Fei 16, Simon 14, Zlatanov 12, Holt 3, Tencati 7, Maruotti 5, Vettori 1, De Cecco 1. DNP Latelli, Tavana. Coach. Monti.

Castellana Grotte looked stronger and more mature again in another good performance against Piacenza. Gulinelli’s boys put pressure on their opponent from the start, while Monti’s team struggled in reception, especially in the first two sets, and it did not do too well in attack either, as Castellana made its usual prowess at the net (15 blocks). Dolfo and Ricciardello had excellent contribution coming off the bench.

Giulio Sabbi (BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte): “We’ve been doing well of late. The whole team is really playing good volley, they put in practice all the things we do in training. We went 2-0 up by containing stars like Fei and Zlatanov. We need to keep playing like this with that same attitude we had in the last four games”.

Antonio Corvetta (Copra Elior Piacenza): “The key to the game might be that end of second set, when we wasted some good opportunities. Our commitment in the cup should not be a problem for us. Castellana Grotte had a good game but we should have done better”.

ANDREOLI LATINA – CMC RAVENNA 1-3 (22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 22-25)

ANDREOLI LATINA: Rauwerdink 14, Rossini (L), Gitto 8, Sottile 1, Jarosz 11, Patriarca 7, Verhees 11, Prandi (L), Troy 7, Noda Blanco 6, Cisolla 3, Fragkos 4, Guemart 3. Coach. Prandi.

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 11, Owens, Zhukouski 6, Psarras, Sirri 11, Tabanelli (L), Mazzotti, Di Franco 6, Zanuto 19, Moro 15, Bellei 1, Pelekoudas 4. Coach. Fresa.

Ravenna takes maximum points in Latina and sends Verona bottom of the league table. The hosts might have had their minds on Wednesday’s Cev Cup semi-final second leg against MMP Ankara. MVP Bruno Zanuto

Silvano Prandi (Coach Andreoli Latina): “The team lacked energy today. The result reflects perfectly what happened on court. We played a poor game, without determination. We have to to get moving and focus on the next opponent. Let’s put this one behind us”.

Bruno Zanuto (CMC Ravenna): “We did a good job of sealing it early and take all three points, which allows us to get off this bottom position. This will give us confidence for the remaining of the season”.

ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO – TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA 1-3 (19-25, 25-19, 21-25, 21-25) ALTOTEVERE SAN GIUSTINO: Fiore 9, Van Den Dries, Mc Kibbin 1, Cesarini (L), Bohme 8, Mattioli, Torre 1, De Togni 7, Maric 17, Cebulj 13. DNP Coali, Gradi, Lo Bianco. Coach. Fenoglio.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA: Coscione 3, Cortellazzi, Kaliberda 12, Farina (L), Forni 9, Buti 11, Klapwijk 22, Barone, Urnaut 15. DNP Montesanti, Lavia, Rocamora, Badawy. Coach. Blengini.

Spectacular game in the PalaKemon arena between San Giustino and Vibo Valentia. The visitors bounced back from their loss against Castellana Grotte with a deserved victory. Vibo’s strong and accurate serves made the difference. MVP Niels Klapwijk

Manuel Coscione (Tonno CallipoVibo Valentia): “We needed a victory to get going again, but we were extremely worried about this road game because San Giustino can make it hard for anyone at home. We did a good job in the clutch times, which is why we managed to control the game rather comfortably”.

Andrea Cesarini (Altotevere San Giustino): “We knew they would have put us under pressure by hitting the serve hard. We tried to contain them, especially in the second set when we played well, and with our work at the net. But then, they stepped up in intensity, they prevented us from playing and we just couldn’t find a way back into the game”.
