69th Serie A season presented
The official presentation of the 69th Serie A season, organized by the Italian Volleyball League in collaboration with the FIPAV, took place in the splendid CONI Hall of Fame.
Prestigious politics and sport figures assisted to the event presented by Rai Sport’s vice-director Jacopo Volpi.
Diego Mosna, Serie A president: “It’s been a thrilling summer with the great achievements of the Italian national team in the European Championships with the silver medal as well as the Juniors team who took the bronze in the World Championships. But now is time for a new season in the Italian league. A lot of changes but this won’t be less prestigious: many players have gone abroad but as many have joined in. And let’s not forget that most of the players of the national team will wear the shirts of Serie A clubs”.
A superb video going through last season was presented by the Piacenza spiker Luca Vettori.
This year there will be two different playoffs, one to play for the league title and the other to gain a place in the EuroChallenge.
At the end of the event, the coach of the Italian national team, Mauro Berruto, said a few words: “We are delighted with the work done, which began a few years back, and which brought us great emotions this summer. The results of the national team are as important as the results of the players in their respective clubs. Everybody has to work towards one and only common goal”
Meanwhile, awards were given to Trentino for its league-cup double 2012-13 and to Macerata for the Super Cup victory in 2012.
Video Check System
For the first time in history, the Video Check System will be used throughout the whole season. Once the referee will have given the verdicts, the spectators will be able to see the replays.
