SuperLega UnipolSai

Round 6

This weekend again, all the clubs of the Serie A have exposed big banners asking for the release of Ghoncheh Ghavami, the young British woman with Iranian origins who was sentenced to one year in prison for participating in a peaceful protest against the ban on women to go to public sport events along with men. She was arrested on June 20 while trying to enter the World League game between Iran and Italy. The message asking for her release was also on the advert boards which could be seen all over the world thanks to the live streaming and worldwide broadcast.

This weekend was also dedicated to the UN day for the Remembrance of Road Victims. The association AIFVS (association of Italian family and road victims) raised awareness through messages that had the slogan “Remembering to Change”.

ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO – TONAZZO PADOVA 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-12) – ALTOTEVERE CITTà DI CASTELLO-SANSEPOLCRO: Franceschini, Teppan 6, Corvetta 1, Dolfo, Tosi (L), Della Lunga 20, Aganits 8, Maric 7, Randazzo 18, Mazzone 7. DNP Lensi, Daldello, Baroti. Coach. Montagnani.

TONAZZO PADOVA: Mattei 12, Orduna 2, Giannotti 33, Balaso (L), Rosso 16, Volpato 9, Garghella, Quiroga 8. DNP Vianello, Gozzo, Aguillard, Milan, Beccaro. Coach. Baldovin.

At the end of a tight encounter that lasted over two hours, Città di Castello clinched its first victory at the tie-break over Padova. They reacted well to the injury to Baroti, who hurt his ankle on the last play of the warm-up. He was substituted by the Estonian Teppan.

In the tie-break, a Maric ace made it 8-7, then a terrific block from Mazzone on Quiroga forced coach Baldovin to call timeout (9-7). The best of Padova, Giannotti, gifted Castello a point for a 13-10 lead. Aand a serve mistake from Orduna eventually handed the game to Castello 15-12. MVP: Dore Della Lunga (Altotevere)

Santiago Orduna (Tonazzo Padova): “Given how it went, we thought we were going to get something more out of it. But in the fourth and fifth set, they got back from the dead while we made too many mistakes. Still, this is a point taken, we’ll build on the positive things done today”.

Goran Maric (Altotevere Città di Castello/Sansepolcro): “That was definitely not a good game. After a decent first set, we completely lost it. Then we managed to react, but with all due respect to our opponent, for me today that’s a point lost”

CMC RAVENNA – ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (18-25, 32-34, 22-25)

CMC RAVENNA: Mengozzi 12, Ricci, Cavanna, Zappoli, Toniutti 1, Gabriele 1, Jeliazkov 14, Koumentakis 5, Goi (L), Cester 5, Bari (L), Cebulj 13. DNP Zanatta Buiatti. Coach. Kantor.

ENERGY T.I. DIATEC TRENTINO: Kaziyski 18, Nelli 4, Birarelli 9, Zygadlo 2, Nemec 5, Lanza 16, Solé 9, Colaci (L), Fedrizzi. DNP Thei, Giannelli, Mazzone, Burgsthaler. Coach. Stoytchev.

It went all wrong before it even started for Ravenna as outside hitter Renan fractured his finger at the end of the warm up. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday. He was substituted by Jeliazkov. Trento came away with a straight set victory with Kaziyiski named MVP of the game.

Radostin Stoytchev (coach Energy T.I. Diatec Trentino): “We gained an advantage as they were without Renan but winning 3-0 away from home is never easy to do. We are therefore very happy. We did not do as well as we should have at times, but that was only on very few points”.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Ravenna): “Renan’s absence was badly felt but at the end of the day, the strongest team wins. We will wait for him and in the meantime we’ll try to be more solid in the clutch time of tight sets”.

REVIVRE MILANO – CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA 0-3 (25-27, 17-25, 19-25)

REVIVRE MILANO: Bencz 20, Horstink 2, Patriarca 5, Rizzo (L), Mattera 2, De Togni 3, Dos Santos 3, Veres 11, Preti, Valsecchi. DNP Bermudez, Kauliakamoa Jr, Cerbo. Coach. Maranesi.

CUCINE LUBE BANCA MARCHE TREIA: Fei 10, Henno (L), Parodi 10, Paparoni, Stankovic 9, Sabbi 4, Monopoli, Kurek 12, Baranowicz 3, Podrascanin 9. DNP Bonacic, Shumov. Coach. Giuliani.

Treia wins again and keeps up with Modena at the top of the table. The Italian Champions had to fight through a difficult first set before being firmly in control. Bencz’s 20 points (59% in attack) were not enough for Milan, while Simone Parodi was named MVP.

Marco Maranesi (coach Revivre Milano): “The difference in the first two fundamentals is evident, especially on the serve. In spite of this, we played face to face in various spells of the game, like the whole first set. We played better compared to last Sunday, we did ok. We made mistakes on the serve in the first set but when you hit it hard and take some risks, this can happen”.

Simone Parodi (Cucine Lube Manca Marche Treia): “We have done a great job of not leaving any set or point behind in those games in which if you’re not hundred percent focused, you run the risk of being disappointed. We proved we were in an interchangeable group. Today Jiri Kovar was missing, but we had many different solutions of play. We want to win the Champions League as well as the League”.

CALZEDONIA VERONA – TOP VOLLEY LATINA 1-3 (22-25, 15-25, 27-25, 22-25) – CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 10, Coscione, Pesaresi (L), Gasparini 19, Deroo 18, White 8, Bellei 1, Sander 5, Anzani 9. DNP Gitto, Blasi, Centomo, Borgogno. Coach. Giani.

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Manià (L), Rauwerdink 7, Sottile 2, Skrimov 4, Tailli, Van De Voorde 10, Rossi 8, Starovic 27, Semenzato, Urnaut 13. DNP Ferenciac, Pellegrino. Coach. Blengini.

Starovic led Latina to a 3-1 victory in Verona with 27 points scored at 66% in attack. Verona had its main man in Gasparini with 5 aces and 19 total points.

Mitja Gasparini (Calzedonia Verona): “We have served very well, but we did not make the most of this fundamental. We should have made it difficult for them on their high balls, but we failed to do so. The block-dig department could have worked out better too. Shame but we’ll start over”.

Tine Urnaut (Top Volley Latina): “I am thrilled, these are three very important points for us. We started off brightly, then Verona stepped up in the third. But the most important thing is that we got back on track when it mattered most to get the victory”.
