That made it a 7-0 this season over Latina. They will take on the winner of Verona versus Perugia, with the latter 2-0 up in the series.

MVP Ivan Miljkovic (Cucine Lube Banca Marche Civitanova)

Ivan Miljkovic (Cucine Lube Banca Marche): “We played with great determination today and with a lot of personality. This is in my opinion the most relevant aspect besides obviously the result and qualification. But it is only a first step on our journey which we hope to be a long one. I was able to perform well tonight but that was thanks to the excellent work of the whole team”.

Daniele Sottile (Ninfa Latina): “In the first two sets, we managed to keep up with Civitanova for a bit. On both occasions, it was their serve that eventually made the difference. In the third set, we totally gave up, which might be my only regret in this series which we have always played to the maximum of our possibilities. In my opinion, we cannot reproach ourselves anything”.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach DHL Modena): “Congratulations to the boys. Our week has been packed with injuries. But we played with determination, I have to say that this team is showing great character. Some were not hundred percent fit, they had to play through physical problems, it was not easy”.

Valerio Baldovin (coach Tonazzo Padova): “We have lost against a great team. I am satisfied with my boys because they proved they never give up. Now we have to give everything with the help of our fans in another extremely tough game”.

SuperLega UnipolSai Challenge playoffs
Round 2: Milan, Piacenza win derbys

Challenge playoffs Round 2

LPR Piacenza-CMC Romagna 3-0 (28-26, 25-23, 25-18); Gi Group Monza-Revivre Milano 2-3 (25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 24-26, 16-18)

LPR PIACENZA – CMC ROMAGNA 3-0 (28-26, 25-23, 25-18)

LPR PIACENZA: Coscione, Kohut 11, Ter Horst 1, Perrin 20, Papi (L), Lampariello, Zlatanov 11, Luburic 10, Tencati 4, Tavares Rodrigues 4, Cottarelli. DNP Sedlacek, Patriarca. Coach. Giuliani.

CMC ROMAGNA: Mengozzi 6, Ricci 3, Cavanna, Della Lunga 11, Polo 1, Koumentakis 11, Goi (L), Torres 14, Boswinkel 1, Bari (L), Perini De Aviz. DNP Zappoli, Van Garderen. Coach. Kantor.

Piacenza is finally back on the winning track. Giuliani’s men took their first three points of the Challenge playoffs at the expense of Ravenna. John Perrin was the matador of the evening with 20 points and was named MVP. Excellent work at the net too for the hosts, who tallied 14 blocks, while Papi played superb dig.

Luca Tencati (LPR Volley Piacenza): “We’ve finally won one in front of our supporters. I dedicate it to the group because even if it might not look like it, this situation has been very tough to bear for us. We have worked very hard every day in the gym to try to get on track. Hopefully, we’ll get more victories before the end of the season”.

Waldo Kantor (coach CMC Romagna): “They maintained a high level on the serve throughout the encounter while we did not do well in reception. We conceded easy points and did not handle some difficult attacks too cleverly. They played better than us and deserved to win. We played decently for two sets but their blocks combined with our mistakes in attack made it hard for us. Hopefully, we’ll have Van Garderen back for the next one, he’s a crucial player for us. Tomorrow we’ll start working on the things that did not go well today”.

GI GROUP MONZA – REVIVRE MILANO 2-3 (25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 24-26, 16-18) – GI GROUP MONZA: Raic 21, Sala 7, Galliani 9, Mercorio 1, Jovovic 8, Rizzo (L), Botto 8, Verhees 2, Beretta 16, Rousseaux 4. DNP Daldello, Brunetti, Gao. Coach. Cattaneo.

REVIVRE MILANO: Milushev 15, Alletti, Sbertoli 4, Skrimov 28, Russomanno Dos Santos, Tosi (L), De Togni 11, Rivan (L), Baranek, Georgiev 7, Burgsthaler 6, Marretta 10. DNP Gavenda, Boninfante. Coach. Monti.

The curse continues. Monza lost the derby once again in its own gym. In the past two season, Monza has always won away but lost its 3 home derby. Cattaneo’s men did win the first and third set to go 2-1 up but there again they did not manage to find the final push at the end of sets. The 16 blocks (4 for Jovovic) were not enough, neither were the 21 points from Raic. Milan had the Usual Skrimov doing all the work with 28 points. He was named MVP. Thanks to this win, Milan is now on its own at the top of the standings.

Iacopo Botto (Gi Group Team Monza): “It’s like a curse: all the derby that we play home ends up in the hands of Milan, while we give them some of their own medicine in their gym. Regardless of this coincidence, we did not play our best volleyball. Or maybe we did not do so with continuity and this is what mattered. But if we take part in this group phase, it’s clear that we need to get better. Now we’ll focus on the next game, it will be important to try to get a result for the standings”.

Luca Monti (coach Revivre Milano): “I am extremely satisfied with this victory, but we know the next one will be difficult because Piacenza has stepped up a level. I really like the atmosphere there is in the group right now. The boys are enjoying their game. Whoever goes on court plays for the team and to enjoy the game”.
