MVP: Dzavoronok.

After two consecutive defeats, Monza had a perfect evening in a straight set victory over Latina. Maximum effort and excellent percentages in every fundamentals, as well as terrific Dzavoronok (51% in attack, 2 aces) means Monza could forget about the poor performance seen in Sora.

Miguel Àngel Falasca (Coach Gi Group Monza): “We had a whole week to try the new line-up and that helped us for sure. We played as a team and were focused in the clutch time of the sets, which is why we managed to find the break before them and that was the key of this important win. I liked the way Daldello distributed the game, the impact of Dzavoronok, the generosity of Rizzo, the determination of Boto, Fromm, Verhess and Beretta. Now we’ll focus on Padova, a more difficult game which will need to play with maximum focus ».

Daniele Sottile (Top Volley Latina): “I don’t think we have seen the true Latina yet. This is disappointing because we can’t seem to be at our best in any fondamental. I’m sure we can be a different team than what our performances and the table say right now. We have so much work to do, all together, we must try to turn things around. The games are coming fast, we don’t have much time, one more reason to bounce back quickly this Tuesday against Molfetta ».

MVP: Klemen Cebulj

Civitanova’s winning run continues with a sixth victory in as many games in the SuperLega. They stay top of the table although they are now tied with Modena because of the point lost at the tie-break. Padova played its part with sharp serving, the floater too, and some opportunitic plays on the counter. Civitanova had to work hard to come on top as it had some difficulties in reception (29%) and failed to convert some opportunities on the break. When it came down to the fifth set, Civitanova started strong (5-1) and they would not let any chance to Padova.

Valerio Baldovin (Coach Kioene Padova): “We had a good game today again, shame we faded a bit in the end, both in reception, though credit must be given to Civitanova’s serve, and counter. We’ve been doing well of late, and these games will help us to improve our game for the future ».

Gianlorenzo Blengini (Coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “There was a big difference in the two sets lost. They played to perfection in the first, while in the third we did not manage to play at our usual level, and that had a bad influence on the team. I think this is an important factor for us because we will have some difficult situations in the future, and we have to create antibodies as soon as possible ».

It proved impossible to win the PalaTrento arena, even for Perugia. In the big game of the day, Trento remained unbeaten home. A significant encounter that created so much excitement among the 4000 supporters (It was already sold out on Friday morning), a big win that came just 48 hours after the victory over Latina. Nelli showed the way with 17 points and 52% in attack, while Giannelli directed traffic brilliantly and was named MVP. Zaytsev and Russell did not receive enough support from the rest of the roster for Perugia.

Simone Giannelli (Diatec Trentino): “This is a superb result. The hard work done during this first period of season is paying off. I think the reaction after the first set lost was exceptionnal. At this level, character makes even more the difference than the level of play ».

Slobodan Kovac (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “We only played well in the first set, especially thanks to our serve but then we have not been up the task. We know how strong is Trento and we did not manage to contain them. In their arena, it’s tough to stop them ».

MVP: Kovacevic

Saturday night fever in Verona, a superb atmosphere from the start as former Verona coach Bagnoli received a standing ovation. He had led Verona to promotion in 2004. It was one-way traffic in the first two sets as verona was in rhythm and focused. It was tighter from the third and in the fourth Verona cancelled a Sora set point before Mengozzi sealed it for the hosts with a block ».

Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “Not much to say about the first two sets, the third was harder, we made some unforced errors and that helped them find their rhythm and gain confidence. The fourth set was good. In the end of the set, we were behind but there you could see the work we’re doing with the players ».

Bruno Bagnoli (coach Biosì Indexa Sora): “I think we played an hour of excellent volleyball, we could have deserved a point. Verona really stepped up in the fourth set at the net, and that prevented us to get something out of it. But we had a good reaction after the first two sets in which we were clearly struggling. We reacted when De Marchi came on. We have to be satisfied with our level of play in the third and fourth set. We have to build on this and try to get points against teams of our level ».

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA – BUNGE RAVENNA 1-3 (21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 18-25) – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Sabbi 22, Jimenez 12, Di Martino 10, De Barros Ferreira 9, Polo 3, Vitelli 2, Pontes Veloso 1, Del Vecchio 0, Partenio 0, De Pandis (L), Porcelli (L). DNP Hendriks, Cormio. Coach. Di pinto vincenzo.

Excellent performance from Ravenna who came back from Molfetta with all three points, behind a MVP outing from Torres who scored 22 points (3 aces). The visitors registered no less than 13 blocks, 3 from Van Garderen.

Fabio Soli (coach Bunge Ravenna): “We obtained some breaks thanks to our blocking and counter attack, which worked extremely well. We played with patience in the long and important rallies, and we did a great job of containing Molfetta in this heated atmosphere. Hopefully, we will keep our cap of trouble makers on ».

Francesco Del Vecchio (Exprivia Molfetta): “We have to stay calm, limit our mistakes and try to get out of this negative period as a team. We must not panic in the key moments of the game. We just have to keep working and give everything we have to get back on track ».

LPR PIACENZA – REVIVRE MILANO 3-2 (40-38, 26-28, 29-31, 25-22, 15-13)

LPR PIACENZA: Hernandez Ramos 39, Clevenot 22, Marshall 19, Alletti 6, Hierrezuelo 5, Yosifov 3, Papi 1, Tencati 1, Cottarelli 0, Parodi 0, Manià (L). DNP. Zlatanov, Tzioumakas. Coach. Giuliani.

Never-ending game in Piacenza. A tense Piacenza eventually prevailed at the tie-break against a Milan team who had to make do without several players injured. Clévenot turned into the main man of the game as he showed up in the clutch time. He tallied 22 points (3 aces and 3 blocks). He was helped by the determination of Hernandez, and the composure of Hierrezuelo to seal it.

Alberto Giuliani (coach LPR Piacenza): “I am happy with the result, especially considering how it went. Milan played well with Dennis as outside hitter. I did not find my players in good shape, we have to improve on that. Clévenot is really getting better, as for the rest, we’re still suffering from the injuries of this beginning of season ».

Luca Monti (coach Revivre Millano): “My biggest disappointment is not to have all my players available. I like this group, you can feel the will to give a game to anyone. But in this condition, we are forced to play dirty otherwise we’d be dominated on the physical side. Tonight we hit the serve hard at the right time and Marretta has been excellent. I am happy with this team, they risponded well to my demands, they never gave up ».
