AZIMUT MODENA: Le Roux 5, Orduna 1, Massari 4, Holt 6, Vettori 10, Petric 17; Rossini (L). Cook 6, Piano 2. DNP. Salsi, Onwuelo Ngpaeth S. Coach. Piazza

The league leaders were defeated at home in front of over 3500 fans by Monza and lost their first place to Civitanova. Mvp: Fromm

Roberto Piazza (coach Azimut Modena): “This is not who we are. We are not the ones I have seen tonight. This defeat really hurts, but if we want to be a great team we have to react immediately. We need more ‘emotions’ on court. We have a great roster, and I want the group to get right back on track ».

Miguel Àngel Falasca (coach Gi Group Monza): “The key to this win ? We have just played volleyball. The boys have done a great job in the block-dig area and on the serve. They made it vert hard for Modena’s reception. These are three crucial points, but there is a long way to go, we just have to keep working with that same energy and composure we’ve shown until now ».

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA – EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12)

SIR SAFETY CONAD PERUGIA: Buti 8, Tosi (L), Russell 10, Zaytsev, Della Lunga 4, Mitic, Berger 14, Atanasijevic 24, De Cecco 4, Bari (L), Birarelli 7, Podrascanin 2. DNP Chernokozhev, Franceschini. Coach. Kovac.

EXPRIVIA MOLFETTA: Polo 7, Vitelli 4, Partenio, Del Vecchio 3, De Barros Ferreira 16, Pontes Veloso, Olteanu 9, Sabbi 27, De Pandis (L), Porcelli (L), Hendriks, Di Martino. DNP Jimenez, Cormio. Coach. Gulinelli.

A Perugia team working his way back won the marathon at the tie-break against Molfetta and gets back to winning ways after three consecutive defeats. Atanasijevic was back in the starting line-up and scored 24 at 68% (deservedly named MVP), but they were without Zaytsev who only played a few rallies. Sabbi and the Brazilian Joao Rafael were the main men for Molfetta. MVP: Atanasijevic

Luciano De Cecco (Sir Safety Conad Perugia): “This is the team we have right now. We have to get used to fight all the time, set our minds on battling for points every time. We are hundred percent with Boban Kovac, this is us, the players, who are responsible of these results, we have to show character and play good volleyball to get back to our old self ».

Giulio Sabbi (Exprivia Molfetta): “We believed in our chances because Perugia allowed us to believe. We played well from the get-go. We could have done better in the second set but overall it’s a good point taken and a good game for us. We still have to cut down on some mistakes but taking a point in Perugia is a great result ».

TOP VOLLEY LATINA – BIOSì INDEXA SORA 3-2 (27-25, 23-25, 28-26, 19-25, 15-12)

TOP VOLLEY LATINA: Klinkenberg 17, Fei 24, Gitto 13, Sottile 1, Pistolesi 1, Quintana Guerra, Rossi 7, Maruotti 11, Fanuli (L). DNP Caccioppola, Strugar, Penchev. Coach. Bagnoli D.

BIOSì INDEXA SORA: Marrazzo, Gotsev 4, Santucci (L), Kalinin 3, Rosso 21, Mattei 11, Seganov 1, Mauti 1, Sperandio 6, Miskevich 33, De Marchi 4. DNP Corsetti, Tiozzo, Lucarelli. Coach. Bagnoli B.

Latina had the better of Sora in five sets. Mistakes from Rosso and Miskevich followed by a Klinkenberg ace sealed it in the tie-break for the hosts.

MVP Radzivon Miskevich

Daniele Sottile (Top Volley Latina): “What matters is that in the end we won it. These are two points won, and we’re happy to take them. We’re on the right track, but we have a lot of work to do. There was a little bit of pressure because this is a game that we needed to win at all cost ».

Andrea Mattei (Biosì Indexa Sora): “Playing here in Latina is always special. I am disappointed with the result, though. Still, we had a good game and I am very happy we bounced back from the poor performance in Molfetta ».

CALZEDONIA VERONA – DIATEC TRENTINO 0-3 (19-25, 18-25, 20-25)

CALZEDONIA VERONA: Zingel 3, Kovacevic, Lecat 8, Ferreira 7, Giovi (L), Baranowicz 2, Mengozzi 3, Djuric 12, Anzani. DNP Paolucci, Holt, Frigo, Stern. Coach. Giani.

DIATEC TRENTINO: Nelli 11, Giannelli 4, Lanza 10, Solé 6, Colaci (L), Urnaut 13, Mazzone D 10. DNP Burgsthaler, Antonov, Mazzone T, Blasi, Chiappa, Van De Voorde, Stokr. Coach. Lorenzetti.

A record 4126 crowd saw Trento overcoming Verona’s challenge. The visitors were initially ahead in a tight first set before letting Trento back in it. The hosts dominated the second thanks to some powerful attacking plays, while in the third, Verona believed until Simone Giannelli’s serves. The latter was named MVP.

Angelo Lorenzetti (coach Diatec Trentino): “Without taking any credit from the players, it has to be said that we have been lucky to face Verona without Kovacevic because this is an advantage. I know Koivacevic very well, and I know how much he can make the difference. It’s definitely been an important game for the standings for us ».

Andrea Giani (coach Calzedonia Verona): “You have to learn to play as a team and I think today we lost without even playing. With this team and at this level, there are mistakes we can’t afford to do anymore ».

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA – LPR PIACENZA 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 26-24)

TONNO CALLIPO CALABRIA VIBO VALENTIA: Costa 1, Coscione 4, Marra (L), Geiler 13, Michalovic, Barreto Silva 14, Barone 7, Alves Soares, Diamantini 6, Rejlek 27. DNP Buzzelli, Maccarone, Torchia. Coach. Kantor.

LPR PIACENZA: Manià (L), Alletti 11, Papi 2, Marshall 6, Zlatanov 3, Yosifov 4, Tencati 2, Hierrezuelo 3, Hernandez Ramos 22, Clevenot 17. DNP Parodi, Tzioumakas, Cottarelli. Coach. Giuliani.

Vibo Valentia registered its first home win of the season against a Piacenza team that had won its last five. Led by a terrific Rejlek (27 points, 12 in the first set), the hosts were unstoppable in the first two sets. Piacenza snatched a rocambolesque third set on an Hernandez point (on which there was a heated discussion). In the fourth, Giuliani’s men put their feet on the pedal and were holding off Vibo behind. That was until 24-19 though, when Baptiste Geiler showed up. The french, who had already done three superb blocks on Hernandez in the second set, sent some flying serves that Piacenza could not handle. Two aces and one ball eventually finished off by Barreto Silva meant Vibo completed an incredible 7-0 come-back.

Mvp: Baptiste Geiler

Waldo Kantor (coach Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “I think we did everything we could to win it. We played well even when we were behind. I asked the boys more focus in the fourth set when we were trailing, then at 19-24 they did a great job and Geiler found an incredible run of serves. Congratulations to my boys ».

Fernando Hernandez Ramos (LPR Piacenza): “We struggled to keep up with their rhythm in the first set. We could have done better in certain situations. In the third and fourth set we managed to get back in the game and went close to force a tie-break. Shame the end of the fourth set went like that, if we had handled it better we could have won the game in the fifth. But now let’s focus on Ravenna ».

BUNGE RAVENNA – CUCINE LUBE CIVITANOVA 1-3 (27-25, 23-25, 16-25, 24-26)

BUNGE RAVENNA: Ricci 8, Raffaelli 1, Van Garderen 10, Grozdanov 11, Goi (L), Torres 25, Bossi 7, Spirito 1, Marchini. DNP Calarco, Kaminski, Leoni. Coach. Soli.

CUCINE LUBE CIVITANOVA: Sokolov 29, Candellaro 6, Pesaresi (L), Kaliberda 4, Juantorena 6, Stankovic 3, Kovar, Christenson 4, Cester 9, Grebennikov, Cebulj 14. DNP Casadei, Corvetta. Coach. Blengini.

It was hard but Civitanova came back from a one-set deficit to defeat a generous Ravenna side. The hosts had had the better start coming from behind to clinch the opening set but Blengini’s men proved too strong in the remainder of the encounter. Juantorena and Stankovic made the difference when they came on, while Sokolov’s points were crucial.

MVP: Sokolov

Fabio Soli (coach Bunge Ravenna): “We played well and the compliments are always nice to hear, but they don’t give you any points. We did a good job of getting back in the game after a disastrous third set, I can’t blame the guys for anything. They really put maximum effort, both in games and in training. We are close to our best and what’s incredible from this group is that they never slow down one second. In spite of that, the results have not gone our way, and today we would have deserved a point ».

Gianlorenzo Blengini (coach Cucine Lube Civitanova): “I was disappointed with the way we lost the first set, and it’s difficult to find an explanation. The fact is that when Ravenna stepped up, our intensity dropped and this should never happen. We were facing a quality opposition, and a couple of mistakes were enough to find ourselves behind. We were in trouble and my job is to find solutions to win. I have a lot of alternatives in the roster and I have faith in all my players, so I made some changes which turned things around. I am happy with the win, but we have to learn that in such a tough league we always have to leave it out on the floor to win it ».

REVIVRE MILANO – KIOENE PADOVA 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 24-26, 25-19)

REVIVRE MILANO: Cortina (L), Hoag 13, Sbertoli 8, Tondo 11, Skrimov 8, Galassi 9, Dennis 12, Marretta 3. DNP Galaverna, Nielsen, Rudi, De Togni, Boninfante. Coach. Monti.

KIOENE PADOVA: Bassanello (L), Zoppellari, Shaw 2, Giannotti 12, Balaso (L), Maar 17, Koncilja 8, Volpato 4, Milan, Fedrizzi 9, Sestan. DNP Canella, Link. Coach. Baldovin.

After seven consecutive defeats, Milan stopped the bleeding and obtained its first home win in the PalaYamamay arena. Without Starovic and De Togni, the hosts were led by an excellent Riccardo Sbertoli, MVP of the game. He scored 8 points, five of which were blocks and 2 aces. That was a happy day for Milan for another reason : they welcomed back Todor Skrimov in the line-up. He came on in the third, substituting Marretta who had been excellent himself. The Bulgarian celebrated his come-back with 8 points.

Riccardo Sbertoli (Revivre Milano): “We have finally got on track. We really wanted this victory, it’s a crucial win and three extremely important points. In spite of a few mistakes too many, we served well which allowed us to put them under pressure and work well. Credit to them for getting back in it in the third set but we did a good job of taking the fourth set in our hands and seal the game. Todor Skrimov was back today, he is an important player for us and he will be there on Sunday too against Sora ».

Valerio Baldovin (coach Kioene Padova): “We did not play well but this is a different performance form Sunday’s. Milan put a lot of pressure with the serve and that helped them develop their game. We still make too many mistakes, both in reception and on the serve. We really pay the price for a lack of experience and the fact we play a lot of games in quick succession ».
