Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia lost Unipolsai Playoff Challenge Quarterfinal Game 1 on the home turf versus Bunge Ravenna. It wasn’t a spectacular game, full of long plays and some mistakes. In first set Ravenna was in front 17-11, with Tonno Callipo able to come back until the lead on 19-18, but with Ravenna strong in close the set at the extras, 28-26 with an ace of Lyneel. Van Garderen was the absolute protagonist of second set with five aces, driving the visiting team to an easy win 25-14. In third Tonno Callipo fought back, reacting with heart, forcing Bunge to some mistakes, earning the 25-21 win. In fourth it was a battle, a set on the edge until the end, at the extras, with Tonno Callipo who killed three match points to Bunge, before the last block on Thiago Alves which gave the win to Ravenna. Game 2 will take place next monday 3rd april in Forlì.

Waldo Kantor (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia): “We started soft, they were focused and strong, then we came back and we were focused. Will be a long series, we are more or less at same level, we have to face Ravenna on road believe in the win. They made the difference in the fundamental of serve”.

Fabio Soli (Bunge Ravenna): “It’s a big satisfaction for us, we were still winless versus Vibo Valentia in this season. On tonight we were better than us. But I think this will be a long series, we cannot have the same intensity and the same energy all season long, and this happens also in the best of 5 series. We are a group, a team, and we know how to suffer, and I think it’s the same for them. Will be a great series”.

Two faces game at PalaBanca, with an ugly Lpr Piacenza in first two sets, then able to come back into the game and winning the game at tie break, with Latina in a collapse in last three sets. Too many mistakes for Piacenza in first two sets, especialli in the second Alberto Giuliani’s team seemed to be like in a Technical KO. In third Lpr fought back, with a limited number of mistakes, winning the set and approaching with the right mentality the fourth, won at the extras, clearly winning the tie break 15-8, fighting until the end and show theirt strength. Trevor Clavenot was the Mvp of the game, 19 points for the frenchman, but not the top scorer of the game. The top scorer was, more or less as usual, Fernando Hernandez, 23 points and 6 aces for the cuban. Other players in double digits for Lpr were Leonel Marshall with 14 points, and Aimone Alletti with 13. For Top Volley Latina the top scorer was as usual, Alessandro Fei, 22 points versus his former team, Yuki Ishikawa with 18, Gabriele Maruotti with 14, Andrea Rossi with 11 and Carmelo Gitto with 10. Game 2 of Quarterfinals will take place next sunday at PalaBianchini in Latina.

Leonel Marshall (LPR Piacenza): “It was a difficult game, especially in first two sets, Latina put us in big troubles. Would be tough to comeback into this game, but once again our mentality and our toughness gave us the chance to come back in the game. We were great to rtrail in third fourth and fifth and win the game”.

Alessandro Fei (Top Volley Latina): “We were good in first two sets, then we became soft and they stepped up. It was a long game, and in the end we struggled. Next sunday will be another important challenge”.

It was a good game for Gi Group Monza, who earned the win in Unipolsai Playoff Challenge Quarterfinals Game 1 on Exprivia Molfetta at Palazzetto dello Sport in Monza. It was a great performance in the fundamental of serve for Miguel Angel Falasca’s team on tonight, with 10 total aces (2 apiece for Jovovic, Botto and Verhees), being always focused in the crucial moments of the game. It was a good start for Exprivia and bomber Giulio Sabbi (27 points for him in the end), with a great job down the net by Polo and Vitelli, who gave the win to Molfetta 25-23. Vissotto wasn’t a factor, and Falasca put on the court Hirsch, who answered the call putting on the ground 14 total points, helping Monza in second and thind set’s wins 25-22 and 25-23. in fourth middle blocker Thomas Beretta stepped up with three blocks in a row and 5 total in the set, earning the Mvp of the game award, and driving Gi Group to the win in fourth 25-23. Game 2 of this series will take place next sunday in Puglia, on Molfetta’s turf.

Pieter Verhees (Gi Group Monza): “We weren’t focuse in first set, then we hit the right way. We had good serve and the right intensity, so in second and third we reacted, taking home this win, taking the lead in the series. It’s always difficult to play in Molfetta, we need to reply the game of tonight, and put on the floor our 100%”.

Giulio Sabbi (Exprivia Molfetta): “We were a little bit nervous in some part of the game, and this didn’t helped us. They were good in being focused in keymoments of the game, and they won. It was a balanced game, a game on the edge, they were better then us only in the crunch time. Next sunday we will play better, we can do better”.
