It was a great debut for Gi Group Team Monza in Del Monte Italian Cup. Miguel Àngel Falasca’s team, in front of his own fans, grabbed the win versus Taiwan Excellence Top Volley Latina and clinched a spot in the upcoming quarterfinals, where Monza will play in Trento versus Diatec Trentino challenging for january’s Final Four. It was a clear 3-0 on Taiwan Excellence Latina, with american setter Kawika Shoji protagonist and Mvp, dishing some great sets to Finger (15 points), Botto (11) and Dzavoronok (9). A great performance for Monza, considering the fact that the team is at full strength only by few days. On the other hand, bad performance in attack for Latina, withSavani (11 points) and Starovic (10) as best scorers. So Gi Group Monza will play next 18th october in Trento versus Diatec in the quarterfinals, challenging for a Final Four spot.

MVP: Kawika Shoji (Gi Group Monza)

Kawika Shoji (Gi Group Monza):We played as big team, despite we are few days together. We have mentality and power. It was great to play versus my brother, we are used to, but it was great. Now let’s think to play better and improve our mechanisms, we have to face every game as we did on tonight”.

Daniele Sottile (Taiwan Excellence Latina):We did not expressed our best volleyball, we didn’t worked together in last time and we are suffering lack of continuity. We should work on this problem, despite we are still early in the season. We have great quality, I’m confident”.

Calzedonia Verona – Revivre Milano 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20) – Calzedonia Verona: Spirito 4, Jaeschke 14, Pajenk 12, Stern 19, Maar 18, Birarelli 0, Pesaresi (L), Mengozzi 6, Marretta 0. N.E. Good start for Calzedonia Verona on the home turf versus Revivre Milano, a 3-1 win versus the team of former coach Andrea Giani.
Verona will play versus Azimut Modena in the quarterfinals next thursday 19th october, live on Rai Sport. After the battle of first set, where Milano won 26-24, all the remaining sets have been on the edge, with Verona able to step up in the crunch time of the sets, thanks to a great performance by Stern(19 points), Maar (18), Jaeschke (14) and Mvp Pajenk (12). On the other hand it was an outstanding offesive game for Dutchman Nimir Abdel-Aziz, best scorer of the game with 26 points, but not a great effort by Schott (12 points) and Klinkenberg (11). In the middle 9 points for Averill, and 3 for Matteo Piano.

MVP: Alen Pajenk (Calzedonia Verona)

Emanuele Birarelli (Capitano Calzedonia Verona):It wasn’t easy to work at the top, with alot of our players arrived here in last days.  but we wanna win, this game will give us some more trust and confidence, we are looking forward to quarterfinals in Modena, trying to clinch an Italian Cup Final Four spot. We had a good game in the serve, coach Grbic always said to be at the top, to give everything on the court”.

Andrea Giani (Revivre Milano):We should have more quality in the middle part of the game, we should be better in alot of aspects of our play. We have room for improvement, but at this top level we should be at the top in everything, technical and psychological. we lost a game, no worries, we will use this loss trying to grow up, if we want the top level we have to work”.

Bunge Ravenna started brand new Superleague season in the same way they closed the previous, winning on the road at PalaValentia versus Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia. Last april was Playoff Challenge, on tonight it was Italian Cup Eight Finals. It was a great and important road win for coach Fabio Soli’s team, a game which gave to Ravenna the access to the quarterfinals, challenging versus defending champs Cucine Lube Civitanova for a Final Four spot next january.  Austrian opposite Paul Buchegger was the real go to guy for Bunge in this game, 25 points for him (with 5 aces) in a terrific offensive game. It was a good game for playmaker argentinian setter Santiago Orduna, contolling the attack and dishing some great sets to all the hammers. Marechal 14 points, Poglajen 13,
Georgiev 12, in a great offensive performance. On the other hand, best Tonno Callipo’s scorer was Patch with 11 points, in front of Antonov with 10. After a reaction in second set, Coach Lorenzo Tubertini’s team wasn’t able to react to the offensive power of Ravenna.

MVP: Paul Buchegger (Bunge Ravenna)

Lorenzo Tubertini (Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia):It was a bad game, it’s not easy and comfortable to analyze. We were nervous in the start, and we had a good reaction in second set. In third they killed us with the serve, we were always in trouble in side out, without being able to find the right rhythm”.

Fabio Soli (Bunge Ravenna):It was anervous game, because here it’s a place where is always difficult to took home a win. On today it’s a bit better than last paril’s win. Today it was the first game fo the season, and it was important for us to start in the best way our path”.
