He hasn’t turned 21 yet (he will do it on September 19th), yet he can already be considered a veteran of the DRL Volley Team. Because Gonzalo Martinez has been in Belluno since the summer of 2019, when the rhinos treaded the Serie B parquet: he experienced the leap to A3, salvation conquered in the last round and the playoffs just missed last year. In short, in the recent history of the Dolomite society, “Gonzo” has always been there. And there will still be. But with another dress. Or rather, another role: Martinez, in the 2023-2024 season, will no longer play libero. And it will enrich the battery of spikers.

A small but significant personal revolution, to which Gonzalo gives a very specific reason: «I needed new motivations. I like to experiment and, in this sense, I thank the club that has allowed me to make the change of role concrete and continues to have faith in me”. Martinez is now a Bellunese by adoption, despite being born in Conegliano: «I consider DRL like a second family. I’ve been part of it since I was 16: I’ve always had a great time in Belluno, both with the management and with the coaches. I had no reason to change, also because the club has always had important goals. Furthermore, every year the bar rises».

The former libero and future hammer has grown further in his second experience in A3: «Apart from the epilogue, it was a positive championship. Scoring 43 points was not a given. And, to reach the playoffs, all that was needed was a pinch of luck». Busy at the gym? But also outside, if it is true that Gonzalo is enrolled in university and is attending a degree course in Banking and Finance: «During the summer I will divide myself between study and athletic preparation in view of next year. Even if a bit of healthy fun cannot be missing ».
