The first training session of the 2023/2024 Serie A2 Credem Banca season for Pool Libertas Cantù has just ended at the Monza Arena. The Canturini faced the hosts of Vero Volley, and did not disfigure themselves in front of the most esteemed opponents, despite lacking the players involved with their respective national teams.

Coach Francesco Denora Caporusso starts with Matteo Pedron as setter, Kristian Gamba as opposite, Redi Bakiri and Giuseppe Ottaviani as spikers, Dario Monguzzi and Jonas Aguenier as central defenders, and Luca Butti as libero. During the joint training the coach from Cantù tested all the players at his disposal, obtaining good responses from all.

The first set starts in balance, with Pool Libertas breaking away in the central part (13-17), and Vero Volley having an impact at 17 and closing on the second occasion (25-23). The second set saw the two teams tied until aces from Ottaviani (7-9) and Magliano (10-13), but Monza already tied at 13; Cantù is careful with the block (13-16), and the Monza team repays with the same coin for a draw at 17; the final rush rewards the Canturini (21-25). In the third set Coach Denora’s boys take the lead (3-5, 6-9), but the Monza team scores at 15; the advantages prove the hosts right (30-28). Fourth set in balance until the guests scored 1-6 (from 12-11 to 13-17); Vero Volley brings the score back to parity at 19, but the final rewards Pool Libertas (22-25).

“It’s a shame about the third set, given that we let it go a bit – comments Coach Francesco Denora Caporusso –. It’s true that in the pre-season the results are relative, but it’s also nice to train to win. I am satisfied with some things, but above all I wanted to understand some more critical aspects to work on. We got some great ideas. I am especially happy with the contribution of the younger players when they entered the field, and how they responded to the requests. We still have a lot to work on, we’re really at the beginning, but we can already say we’re quite satisfied.”
