Extremely hard-fought victory in the tie break for Valsa Group Modena against Allianz Milano in the advance match that inaugurates the 79th SuperLega Credem Banca championship. Modena starts with the sextet made up of Bruno-Sapozhkov in the main diagonal, Juantorena-Rinaldi on the flank, Stankovic-Sanguinetti in the center with Federici libero. Milan has to do without its starting setter Porro and lines up Zonta-Dirlic, Kaziyski-Ishikawa matelli, Piano-Loser central players with Catania libero. In the pre-match, the yellow-blue fans receive the Jimmy George Award, awarded by the Volleyball League to the most correct supporters – and with equal scores to the most numerous – of the 2022/23 season. Also in the stands at PalaPanini was the former President of Modena Volley Giovanni Vandelli, greeted on the microphone by the speaker before the start of the match. Then the moment for the dutiful memory of Leo Novi and Carlo Gobbi, historic figures of Modena and national volleyball who recently passed away. The match begins and the yellow-blues are the first to make some breaks, it’s 11-8 with Rinaldi’s great attack. Modena takes off, Sapozhkov’s ace makes it 17-12. Coach Petrella’s team closes an excellent first set with 25-19 which makes it 1-0. In the second set Piazza’s men started better, 2-7. Milan doesn’t stop and widens the lead, 7-18, then closes 12-25 and finds a draw in the set count. The third set opens in the name of balance, 6-6. Modena manages to put its head forward with Davyskiba’s winning diagonal, 12-10. Milan recovers the deficit and passes, 20-21, then does not drop the pace and goes 21-25. In the fourth Petrella’s team immediately goes ahead, 8-5. The guests close the score to Modena, 16-16. Milan doesn’t give up, but at 24-24 Davyskiba serves and scores the ace for 26-24 and takes the match to a tie-break. The decisive set also starts in the name of balance, 5-5. Modena takes the lead taking advantage of a great Davyskiba, 12-7. The yellow-blue team made the final push to make it 15-12, triggering a euphoric reaction from PalaPanini.

Rana Verona wins 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 26-28, 25-16) the first championship match at the PalaMazzola in Taranto, demonstrating greater effectiveness in attack and defense, despite Gioiella Prisma’s attempt to reopen the match by winning the third set with the advantages. It is not enough; in the fourth set Verona takes to the field even more determined and aggressive and the rossoblù can do nothing despite the changes by coach Mastrangelo to try to revive the fortunes of the match. On the home field, Jendryk performed well with 16 points, Sala and Lanza with 14 and 13 points.

Cisterna Volley excites and fights for five sets, taking home a point from the complicated opening match of the Super League against the reigning Italian champions from Trento. The Pontini team goes behind in the first set (18-25) then recovers by winning the second set (25-15) and repeats it in the third (28-26) fighting to gain the advantage. Ahead 2-1, the home team is unable to close the match in the fourth segment of the match in which Trento regains its quality in the offensive phase and Cisterna suffers a decline (17-25), and then also loses 8-15 in the fifth set.

MVP: Daniele Lavia (Itas Trentino)

Another start for Cucine Lube Civitanova in the 79th SuperLega Credem Banca championship. At their home debut in the Regular Season, the red and white team stumbled in three sets (23-25, 21-25, 22-25) against Mint Vero Volley Monza, who achieved their third consecutive victory in the Regular Season with the red and whites. The training of Chicco Blengini’s men continues. Despite the result on the field, the team also shows good ideas and considerable room for growth in the game mechanisms.

Awards ceremony
Simona Sileoni, president of Lube Volley, presented Adis Lagumdzija with the “Andrej Kuznetsov” League Award as the best scorer of last season in the Super League.

Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza – Pallavolo Padova 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-16) – Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza: Brizard 3, Santos De Souza 9, Ricci 6, Romanò 12, Recine 8, Simon 10, Hoffer (L), Scanferla (L), Andringa 0. In their seasonal debut, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza defeated Pallavolo Padova in three sets at the PalaBanca. Forced choices for the two teams. The hosts have to do without Leal and Caneschi, so coach Anastasi lines up Recine with Lucarelli in place 4, Ricci with Simon in the center, while captain Brizard and Romano form the setter-opposite diagonal, with Scanferla free. Mister Cuttini instead sends Falaschi as director, Gabi Garcia as opposite, Gardini-Cardenas as spikers, Plak-Truocchio as central defenders and Zenger as libero. The start of the match was immediately in favor of Gas Sales Bluenergy which opened the first gap at 10-6, forcing Padova into a time-out. Brizard and his teammates go +6 (19-13) only to slow down towards the finish line of the first set. The guests halve the deficit to 23-20, but Piacenza reverses the trend and closes at 25-21 with a block from Simon. The second set follows the same lines as the first, even if Padova remains closer to their opponents until 15-14. From that moment on it is an effective turn of service by Simon (three aces) which creates the decisive break (20-15). Piacenza extends the lead by one point to 25-19 thanks to an error by Cardenas. The third set is a red and white solo. Padova holds on until 4-4, then finds itself five points down (10-5). Romanò, dull in the first two sets, finds the right verve and together with Lucarelli and Simon (the most positive and consistent of the evening) takes Piacenza to 20-10. Gas Sales Bluenergy goes on autopilot and closes 25-16 (Garcia’s error) for the final 3-0.

Sir Susa Vim Perugia – Farmitalia Catania 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-22) – Sir Susa Vim Perugia: Giannelli 5, Semeniuk 8, Resende Gualberto 10, Herrera Jaime 11, Leon Venero 4, Solé 10, Toscani (L), Held 3, Ben Tara 0, Colaci (L), Plotnytskyi 3. Frumuselu, Baldi, Santambrogio. All. Douglas. ARBITRI: Giardini, Cerra. NOTE – durata set: 22′, 28′, 30′; tot: 80′.

Winning debut in the Super League for Sir Susa Vim Perugia, who beat Farmitalia Catania in three sets on the first day of the championship. Winning debut also for Angelo Lorenzetti at his first official on the Juventus bench in the new PalaBarton dressed to the nines to greet his favorites. A Perugia still in the process of running in from the point of view of synchronism on the pitch, but capable of playing a solid match in the second line (60% positive reception), concrete and effective in attack where the hosts finished with 60% of the team. Farmitalia Catania, making its debut in the Super League, tries, especially in the third set. What condemned the Etna players was a poor day of service (0 aces, 17 direct errors) and an attack that was not always incisive (39% of the team). Three in double figures for Perugia: Herrara (11 points), Solè (10 winning balls) and MVP Flavio (10 points with 100% in the first half and 3 blocks). In the Sicilian half of the field 12 for Randazzo, 9 for Buchegger.
