Third season, the second in a row, for Matteo Picchio at the Pool Libertas Cantù. The libero from Monza, who returned to the shadow of the bell tower of San Paolo in the championship that has just ended after his experience at Top Volley Cisterna in the Superlega, deserved confirmation thanks to his very good performances on the second row when he was called into question by Coach Francesco Denora.

“I’m really excited about Matteo Picchio’s confirmation – comments Coach Francesco Denora -. Having two free of this level is a luxury for us, and makes us sleep soundly more than peaceful. Matteo is a hard worker, with a good mentality: last season he also made himself available as a ‘second row’, always putting the good of the team first, and making himself appreciated even more within the group. This season we will set ourselves new technical goals to make him grow further, there are margins. Then he knows the environment very well by now, he can call himself Canturino, and his help in integrating the new ones will also be important”.

“I am very happy to stay – says the Libero from Brianza -, in Cantù I get along very well both with the President (Ambrogio Molteni, ed) and with Coach Francesco Denora and with all the rest of the staff. We work well, there’s the right pressure, and knowing almost all of my team-mates, I’m sure we’ll fight to the end on any occasion. The next championship will certainly be difficult because there will no longer be a battleship like Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia was last year, but there will be many well-equipped teams, and therefore it will be much more difficult to achieve the objectives. For our part, we have confirmed a large part of the group from the past championship, and therefore we will be able to have our say. I must also add that there are some guys on the bench with a lot of perspective, and with the way Coaches Francesco Denora and Alessio Zingoni work, it will be a very important thing. On a personal level, I will always try to give everything I have in the gym, being also one of the ‘oldest’ in terms of seniority at the Pool Libertas, and I would like to ‘weight’ my experience to the younger guys to make them grow as much as possible. If the so-called Team B grows, the whole group grows, because when you win, even the bench is aware that the work done during the week has borne the right results. It is a great satisfaction for everyone”.
