In Rio de Janeiro, Italy lost to the hosts Brazil in a tie-break with a score of 2-3 (23-25, 25-23, 25-15, 17-25, 11-15), its last OQT (Olympian Qualifying Tournament) match. The Azzurri closed the tournament with 4 successes and 3 defeats, thus abandoning the dream of gaining direct access to the Olympic Games; qualification for Paris 2024 achieved by the green and gold together with Germany, first in the Pool.

The road to Paris will now depend on the position in the ranking after the intercontinental phase of the VNL 2024. As is known, the remaining five places will be assigned based on the ranking to guarantee the principle of the universality of the Games. The five remaining teams will be selected taking into account:

1) teams coming from continents without qualifications;
2) the best ranked teams not yet qualified.
