Mint Vero Volley Monza wins the first leg of the Quarter Finals of the CEV Challenge Cup. The first men’s team of the Vero Volley Consortium fought until the last point, easily overcoming Levski Sofia 0-3 at the Levski Sofia Sport Hall. A masterful show of strength by the Eccheli boys who, despite the numerous defections, showed off their muscles by offering an excellent team performance, emphasizing the ability of a very solid group.
For this match, coach Eccheli relied heavily on a large turnover, also due to the absence of Di Martino (who did not start with the team due to a flu attack), and the less than perfect state of health of numerous players. The sextet was therefore composed of Visic as director and Mujanovic as opposite, Maar-Loeppky as a pair of spikers, Galassi and captain Beretta as central defenders with Gaggini as libero. Top scorer for the Brianza team was Eric Loeppky, author of 17 points, followed by the Slovenian Nik Mujanovic with 13 balls put on the ground. There will, however, be no time to rest for MINT Vero Volley Monza who will immediately return to the pitch in the SuperLega Credem Banca on Sunday 14 January, at 5.45 pm, facing Valsa Group Modena within the friendly walls of the Opiquad Arena, live on Rai Sports and VBTV. The second leg of the Challenge Cup, however, is scheduled for Wednesday 17 January at 7.00 pm, again in Monza.
