The Belluno Volley club, with the entire sports community and beyond, joins the family in mourning the premature passing of Matteo Piazzetta: one of the protagonists of the white-blues’ first season in Serie A3 and two B championships.
A true “rhinoceros”, who showed off his grit on the field. But off it was a whole different story. Because Matteo was light. He was kindness. He was one of those who greet first. Who help without saying it. Who smile even when they have a reason not to.
From the height of his 2 meters, or almost, he attacked with his left hand: with his proverbial “left-handed shots”. And he did it with elegance, but also with the effectiveness of someone who knows that volleyball is made of subtle balances.
Outside the arena, however, you could see him with a camera in his hand, while he was looking for the perfect shot. Or maybe absorbed in front of a painting: he was in love with art. Images, he said, speak where words stop.
Perhaps this is why, now that Matteo has been struck by an illness that does not discriminate against anyone, we are speechless. Because in the face of such a premature passing, at 36 years of age, even the news stops. And leaves room for memory. The memory of a sunny boy, with a clear gaze and gentle ways.
Those who knew him know that it was impossible not to love him. They knew it in the locker room, anyone who ran into him after a game knew it. Matteo is no longer here, but that light remains.
