The 26th edition of the Del Monte® Boy League, the Under 14 tournament signed by Lega Pallavolo Serie A that involves some of the best youth sectors of the Serie A clubs, was inaugurated this afternoon, Friday 23 May. All 8 teams that will take part in the event with the first round of the Group Stage took to the field. The matches were played at the Palazzetto dello Sport Allende in Fano and at the Palasport Cercolani in Lucrezia di Cartoceto.

In the two matches that started the Del Monte® Boy League, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and MA Acqua S.Bernardo Cuneo grabbed the first victories, both 2-1 (in the Group Stage the game is always played over 3 sets, and each partial is worth 1 point), against Itas Trentino and Sir Susa Vim Perugia. Both the Emilians and the Piedmontese started strong and won the first 2 sets; trend reversed in the third set, where they suffered the comeback of their opponents who were thus able to also move up the rankings with 1 point.

In the 18.30 challenges, however, a 3-point victory for Kioene Padova against Romeo Sorrento, while in the challenge between Allianz Diavoli Rosa Brugherio and Cucine Lube Civitanova, or the “rematch” of the Final of the previous edition, the two teams shared the points up for grabs. Civitanova, leading 2-0, in fact gave way in the third set to the Brianza team.

FORMULA
The 8 teams participating in the final phase of the Del Monte® Boy League have been divided into 2 groups (Group F and Group G) and will compete in a one-way round robin. At the end of the Group (last round scheduled for Saturday at 5:00 p.m.), the top 2 teams in each group will qualify for the Semifinals (Sunday at 10:30 a.m.), which will decide who will play for the title and who will play for the bronze medal. The teams that do not qualify for the Semifinals will compete for 5th-6th Place (a challenge between the third-place teams in the group) and 7th-8th Place (between the fourth-place teams).
