Setter Simone Porro returned to Italy after an experience that undoubtedly shaped his still-young career. He was part of the Italian team that competed in the Under-19 World Championships in Uzbekistan: a competition that allowed the Emma Villas Codyeco Lupi Siena player to compete against the best volleyball players his age.
Italy finished the competition in fifth place. After a high-level start to the tournament, the Italians met France in the quarterfinals, with the French prevailing by three sets to one. The French thus blocked the Italians’ path to the semifinals and went on to win the world title. Meanwhile, the Italian Under-19 team defeated Finland and Bulgaria to secure fifth place in the world. This Italian team thus enjoyed another important sporting experience, coming after the two European Championships they played in. At youth level, Simone Porro has already won a gold medal and a silver medal at the European Championships, to which he adds this fifth place at the World Championships.
