The hunt for a spot in A2 is in full swing. Domotek Reggio Calabria is ready to face Game 1 of the playoff semifinal against Acqui Terme in Valenza, dreaming of capping an already historic season with one final, major goal: promotion to A2. We caught up with captain Domenico Laganà, who makes no secret of his team’s ambition and competitive spirit.
Domotek arrives at the match buoyed by their victory in the Del Monte Super Cup, a trophy that has already graced their trophy collection following their victory in the Coppa Italia Del Monte. And it’s precisely on the symbol of that victory that Domenico Laganà, who has been in amaranth since day one, jokes, albeit mildly: “The tricolor Taraflex brings us luck. That’s the truth, isn’t it?” the captain begins with a smile. – “Anyway, we did well. It definitely sparked some pride in us. Overall, the score was 4-3 for us against a super team like Reggio Emilia, if there’s a winner in this very long series between two truly excellent teams. But in the end, they won the most important title so far, that is, the promotion to a higher division,” he admits, with typical respect for an opponent who remains the clear favorite.
Domotek has already written important pages: “We brought two very important trophies to Reggio Calabria,” emphasizes the captain. Then the change of pace: “Now all we need is the icing on the cake. Let’s hope we achieve this last goal.” The captain doesn’t even want to imagine a perfect scenario: “Can you imagine a treble in Reggio Calabria? I don’t want to imagine it,” he says almost superstitiously, while still suggesting that his thoughts are far away.
The recent past weighs heavily, and not a little. Laganà reveals his frustration over last year’s loss to Acqui Terme: “Captain, how angry were you last year? Yes, I’m pretty angry. I did an interview at the end of the year where I was pretty angry, and I didn’t watch volleyball for two weeks.”
But 2026 is a different story: “This year, everything is reset. We’re both stronger teams, both us and them. It will definitely be a great match.”
Domotek didn’t fare well in the pairing: “As the top seed right now, things haven’t gone very well for us,” the captain admits. But that’s precisely where Reggio Calabria’s strength lies: “We in Reggio Calabria are used to fighting. Come and support us at the gym for this final push. We need everyone to reach our final goal.”
