Allianz Milano secured a convincing victory, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Challenge Cup by defeating Serbian side Red Star Belgrade 3-0, repeating last week’s triumph. Coach Roberto Piazza, after the first two sets that secured a spot in the next round, gave almost every member of the Milanese team a chance to play. A strong performance by young opposite hitter Lindqvist, Reggers’s assistant, stood out, earning him the MVP award.
Milan’s next opponent will be announced tomorrow: in the first leg, Polish team Norwid Czestochowa defeated Spanish team Valencia. Ljubomir Travica’s team won the first leg in three sets and will therefore need just two sets to qualify for the quarterfinals. This opponent should not be underestimated, given the presence of experienced player Luciano De Cecco and former Milan player Milad Ebadipour in the starting six.
