He reached the 1,000-point milestone in Serie A3 during the home match against Stadium Mirandola. He was at 996 points, and with the 13 he scored in last Sunday’s match, Augusto Quarta rose to 1,009. For his career, the Bologna middle blocker stands at 1,574, as his total also includes 565 points in Serie A2. And on the same occasion, the so-called “John” also surpassed 1,000 (reaching 1,007) in total attack winners, as his resume includes 83 aces and 484 blocks, another specialty of the 32-year-old white-and-blue player. Potenza Picena, Castellana Grotte, Massa, and Reggio Emilia are the A2 leagues he’s played in, while Quarta played in A3 at Portomaggiore and Tuscania before moving to San Giustino. He scored 780 of his 1,009 points in the division, or 77.3%, with ErmGroup Altotevere in four seasons that aren’t yet complete. “It’s incredibly satisfying,” Quarta comments, “even though I repeat what I said when I reached 1,500 career points: it means I’m getting older. Right now, though, I’m not thinking about my own numbers: I’m focused on the team.”
