The regular season concludes tomorrow evening, with all matchday 22 matches scheduled for 8:30 PM. Sir Susa Scai Perugia will host Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina for a match with a special flavor. On the one hand, the home team will enter the game confident they’ve already won the regular season with a game to spare, after conquering the PalaAgsm in Verona in three sets on Saturday night. On the other side of the net, the relegated team from the Marche region will be looking to honor their final Superleague match.
This could make for an unpredictable match, especially since coach Ortenzi’s team will be playing without opponents, following the early terminations of Dusan Petkovic in January and Mohammad Golzadeh in early February. The Iranian opposite hitter’s shots, in particular, had a significant impact on the first leg, which the Block Devils played at PalaSavelli during the midweek round on Wednesday, December 3, as recalled by Juventus libero Marco Gaggini, who started that match: “At home, they gave everything from the first point, while we didn’t play very well at the start. We were always a bit close, but then when we started imposing our game, we gained enough distance to take all the sets. Wednesday’s match, however, will be a bit of a surprise because they will likely be playing with their third spiker as their opposite hitter, so we’ll see how they enter the court. They’ll probably want to show that it’s a very important match for them against Perugia.”
