Galatone is making a series of changes at opposite hitter: from Cuban Padura Diaz, the second-best scorer in Serie A3 last season and a distinguished past, to an emerging compatriot, Arguelles Sanchez, who aims to establish himself in Salento. Having arrived in Italy at a young age from Havana, he joined Consorzio Vero Volley Monza, with whom he won the 2023 Del Monte Junior League U.20 title, earning the tournament’s MVP award. He boasts not only his young age (he turned 23 just under a week ago) but also significant experience in Serie A2 at Santa Croce, Porto Viro, and Fano, as well as two Serie A3 championships with Lecce and Napoli. His 882 points scored are the result of a prolific 2023-2024 season with Aurispa DelCar Lecce, led by coach Cavalera, where the Habanero scored 505 points in 93 sets played, equal to a 50% efficiency rate. This excellent performance landed him on the Delta Porto Viro roster and subsequently on the Fano team, before briefly stints with Gaia Energy Napoli in the recently concluded season. President Luciano Colazzo applauds the move by his sporting director Imbriani, who secured the services of the out-of-touch player in his second stint in Salento:
“Despite tough competition, we brought home a player with remarkable technical and athletic qualities. We had the opportunity to evaluate his excellent performances in the 2023-2024 season, and as soon as the market conditions allowed, we secured his services.”
