The Itas Trentino men’s transfer market has seen its first incoming player. Strengthening the 2026/27 roster begins with the player who will complete the setter roster: the two-year signing of setter Nicola Zonta, who played in Serie A2 at Porto Viro last season, is now official. The 26-year-old setter from Friuli will partner with Captain Riccardo Sbertoli.
He is a skilled setter with excellent technique and a unique tactical vision, which he enjoys speeding up with his two well-trained hands. Having moved from Gemona to Cuneo at just fifteen, Zonta completed his youth career at Segrate, where he won an Italian Under-19 and Under-18 title, before making his Serie A2 debut with Club Italia. In his career, he has played a total of four championships in the second division (with Bergamo and Castellana Grotte, as well as Porto Viro – for a total of 90 appearances), two in Serie A3 in Fano, and two in the SuperLega in Milan as Paolo Porro’s assistant between 2023 and 2025.
“It’s an honor to be able to wear the Trentino Volley jersey,” were Nicola Zonta’s first words as a yellow-blue player. “It will be wonderful to be able to train every day alongside the great champions our squad can count on. I’ve already had the opportunity to speak with the staff, and in particular with coach Marcelo Mendez, to understand what I can offer this team. There will be hard work to be done, but I couldn’t ask for anything better. It’s a great motivation to be able to build something for this club every day. I’m back in the SuperLega after just one year in Serie A2, and I’ll be able to enjoy this experience alongside Riccardo Sbertoli, with whom I already shared two years in Segrate. It will be wonderful to reconnect with that bond we had built back then.”
“Zonta has the right characteristics to offer something important to this group throughout the season,” said Trentino Volley coach Marcelo Mendez. “He already has significant experience in the SuperLega in the role we asked him to fill, and he’s coming off a strong season as a starter in Serie A2. I’m also convinced he can continue to grow, because we’re talking about a young player with hands that can bring speed to our game, especially at the center of the net. With him, our roster will be even more complete.”
Nicola Zonta will wear the number 4 jersey, a number never previously worn by any other setter in Trento; he will be available to the staff from the start of preparation, so he can immediately familiarize himself with Mendez’s working method.
