From Thursday, October 2nd to Saturday, October 4th, the 24th “Giacomo Cabras” Memorial took place in Sant’Antioco, Sardinia, dedicated to the young Olimpia libero who tragically passed away at the age of 22 in 2001.
For the 2025 edition, the local teams Sarlux Sarroch and Cus Cagliari were the protagonists, joined by Monge-Gerbaudo Savigliano, for a triangular tournament entirely dedicated to the Serie A3 Credem Banca, a prelude to what will be the 2025/26 season.
The tournament was won by Cagliari, but the Savigliano team distinguished itself with two excellent performances, finishing in second place after 10 intense sets. Indeed, both matches involving the Piedmontese team ended in tie-breaks.
In the first set, against Sarroch, Rabbia and his teammates won the first set, lost the second and third, won the fourth, and then lost 15-12 in a tense fifth.
In the second set, however, it was the Piedmontese team that took the win, retaking Cagliari, who had escaped with a 2-0 lead, before winning the tie-break with a resounding 15-9.
A perfect culmination of an excellent three-day performance was the individual award given to Andrea Galaverna, celebrated as the tournament’s MVP. The final victory, however, went to Cagliari, who in the first match had won the Sardinian derby against Sarroch with a resounding 3-0 victory.
