Domotek Volley’s treble is a reality: Francesco Giglio gets emotional and recounts the feat: “From year zero to 7,000 people. It was fate to stay indoors.”
REGGIO CALABRIA – The Cetraro community is still ecstatic over the new and wonderful achievement of their fellow citizen. Domotek Volley’s treble is truly fantastic, a feat that will go down in the history of Calabrian and national volleyball. Francesco Giglio, the team’s technical assistant and longtime associate of Coach Polimeni, recounts the emotions of this triumphant ride. “It was immensely satisfying. I’ve been here since the first year, from day one, and for me it was truly an incredible feeling.”
Domotek closed out the match with a resounding 3-0 victory over Belluno, a result not even the most optimistic of fans expected. Giglio himself admits: “I expected a more closely fought match. But thank goodness the boys put in such a great performance and we won 3-0.” But beyond the score, what left its mark was the crowd. An almost paradoxical comparison, considering the early days: “It’s incredible,” Giglio says, “to think of the first Serie B match where we were 87 people, if I’m not mistaken, and to see 7,000 people on Sunday. It was fantastic.”
For Giglio, match day started very early: “The morning of the match, I woke up at 6:30 and then I couldn’t sleep because I started thinking about these past three years. I said: ‘We can’t not do it. We deserve to be successful in front of our fans.'” A thought that becomes almost superstitious, but also deeply tied to the history of this team. “We finished Serie B away in Grottaglie in our first year. We also won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa away from home. So it was inevitable that we would end the season in Game 3 at home. It was pleasantly inevitable.”
A special thanks goes to the fans, who cheered the team on from start to finish: “The Reggio Calabria crowd,” Giglio emphasized, “deserved it all. Extraordinary. They cheered us on from the first game to the last. It was always a crescendo, and they’re truly a crowd that pushes you on, that tells you not to give up.”
