SERIE A1 TIM

Treviso finally wins at home. It’s the first round in which the home advantage is respected

For the first time since the beginning of the 64th Serie A1 Tim championship, the home advantage meant something. Six games and six home wins before Monday night’s game between Trentino and Macerata.

Treviso finally came out winner in its PalaVerde with a 3-0 sweep of Martina Franca. The team had not won at home since the 9th of April 2008 (quarter final game 1). Treviso left no chance to its opponent, showing an excellent attitude on the block and serve. Stefan Hubner stood out and was named MVP, as he realised 7 blocks and 2 aces. On the other side of the net, Lattari’s boys seemed too tense.

Montichiari had it all easy too against Forli, confirming it would be difficult to come and win in its PalaGeorge. Alessandro Paparoni was used in attack and should be back in the team full-time very soon.

Defeated by Cuneo last Monday, Piacenza bounced back with a 3-0 win over Modena. The team of chairman Molinaroli had a different sound about it, as the ‘4ever’ cover band played from 5.30pm, during the time-out and at the end of sets. Bravo and Dunnes came in for Falasca and Marshall and Rak as outside hitter. Modena quickly trailed and tried to turn things around with the introduction of Angel Dennis but in vain.

Verona keeps being a threat for the top team of this league, as it earned its first game with maximum points against Cuneo.

Pineto gathered some crucial points against Vibo Valentia in the race to stay up. Coach Paolo Montagnani had the better on his master Gulinelli. Indeed, the later was Latina’s head coach last year and Montagnani his assistant.

Marmi LanzaVerona: Latelli (L), Parodi 13, Popp 1, Sottile, Colaci, Lasko 19, Dehne 2, Szabo 1, Volpini (L), Maric 12, Semenzato 9, Bontje 18. DNP Mosterts. Coach. Giuliani Alberto.

Silvano Prandi (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We did not play well the end of the third set, giving it away to Verona, with too many inaccuracies in attack. We made many mistakes and they had a good performance too. In the fourth set, they controlled the game better than us. We still have to improve a lot in the emotional aspect”.

Rob Bontje (Marmi Lanza Verona): “It went well today, the team played at an excellent level, which is important. We had a bit of luck on our side and then the block worked fine. It’s been a tough but unbelievable game. We have a team that works with a lot of intensity every day and that can have performances of this type”.

Paolo Montagnani (Framasil Pineto): “It’s been the toughest game, but also the most important. We reacted well after the loss of the first set. We made a giant step forward”.

Flavio Gulinelli (Tonno Callipo Vibo Valentia): “We played well the first set but then we could not contain Pineto’s comeback. It’s a team with excellent players and well-organised. Today, the student overcome his master given that he was (Montagnani) my assistant last season at Latina”.

Sisley Treviso – Stamplast Martina Franca 3-0 (25-19; 25-14; 25-11)

Sisley Treviso: Fei 7, Hubner 15, Papi 10, Farina (L), Antonov, Endres 8, Cisolla 12, Daldello (L), Garcia 3. DNP Kohut, Saitta, Capra, Gallotta. Coach. Dal Zotto Renan.

Renan Dal Zotto (Sisley Treviso): “The team played easy, capitalizing on the good work done this week. It blocked and served well. Richy (Richardinho) managed to play a lot with the middleblockers, which is something he was not doing. So much so that our outside hitter had very few balls to attack. It’s a victory for today, from tomorrow we’ll have to start thinking of the game against Padova, a team in need of points”.

Radames Lattari (Stamplast Martina Franca): “The team thought it could do well and was apparently completely mistaken. We started off very tense. The all team played in an apathetic way. I definitely didn’t expect such a game”.

Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari – Yoga Forli 3-0 (25-15; 25-21; 27-25)

Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari: Sala 6, Rauwerdink 11, Horstink 13, Paparoni, Esko 4, Howard 8, Pesenti, Bellei, Gavotto 19, Zito (L), Mani (L). DNP Tiberti, Forni. Coach. Berruto Mauro.

Yoga Forl: Bendi, Henno (L), Molteni 5, Bittar 15, Cardona 5, Redwitz 3, Di Franco 3, Bellini, Patriarca 9, Bozko 2. DNP Casadei, Loglisci. Coach. Molducci Piero.

Loris Mani (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): “We dominated the first two sets, but we faded in the third in reception and they got back in it. Thanks to Gavotto, we maintained our composure and took 3 fundamental points for the table”.

Marco Molteni (Yoga Forli): “We’re feeling too much the pressur eof the possibility to go down and that influences us at the beginning of every game. However, we have the potential to always play like we did in this third set. The team has quality, it’s only a question of mentality”.

Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza – Trenkwalder Modena 3-0 (25-19; 25-23; 25-18)

Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza: Rak 5, Meoni 3, Marshall, Zingaro, Zlatanov 17, Durante (L), Bravo 6, Dunnes 6, Bjelica 9. DNP Insalata, Grassano, Boninfante. Coach. Lorenzetti Angelo.

Trenkwalder Modena: Lee 3, Ciabattini (L), Tencati, Kooistra 12, Rinaldi (L), Dennis 2, Sartoretti 3, Santos 7, Travica 2, Endres 11. DNP Smuc, Siebeck, Pagni. Coach. Giani Andrea.

Gianluca Durante (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “We are thrilled to have taken these three points. We were undeservedly defeated at Cuneo given the quality of play we demonstrated on court. They had their full squad while we didn’t. This is another reason why these are three golden points. With Dunnes in the first line, the situation on court was not balanced, but that’s Lorenzetti. All credit to him for the way he lined us up on court and how he managed to get the best out of us”.

SERIE A2 TIM

ISERNIA STOPS BOLOGNA

Bologna’s spectacular unbeaten run was put to a halt by Isernia, who played with great will after some irregular performances thus far. There was a surprise result in Catania too, where Hugo Conte’s team made up for the recent cuts with a great team performance to beat an unrecognizable Roma team. The arrival of Stefano Moro revitalized Castellana Grotte, who obtained a 3-1 win over Crema, without two starting spikers injured. There were victories also for Bassano and Cavriago. Gioa del Colle ruined Daniele Ricci’s 500th hundred game as his Latina team surrendered 30-28 in the tie-break.
