Roma – Roma finds the leadership again after their home victory for 3-1(26-24, 20-25, 25-23, 25-23) against Antonveneta Padova and thanks to Cuneo’s defeat in Trento. Pushed by an amazing Osvaldo Hernandez, author of 25 points and match MVP, M. Roma Volley is not that impressive but they do enough to beat brave Padova, who arrived in the capital without two important players like Perazzolo and De Togni.

Bagnoli’s choices became forced ones. Esko, young Bellini, Diaz, Platenik, Bontje, Tovo and Garghella libero. Serniotti lines up Coscione, Hernandez (Miljkovic only started training again yesterday after being off with the flu), Savani, Marshall, Kooistra, Mastrangelo and Henno libero.

Roma wins the first set after starting behind (5-8). Marshall’s ace and Mastrangelo’s block bring the Romans back (14-11). Padova tries to come back and reaches 18-18. In the final moments, Mastrangelo closes after a wrong serve by Diaz (26-24).

The turn around in the second set arrives with Platenik’s block on Savani for the 9-7. The advantage grows on 19-23 thansk to Bellini. Bontje’s ace closes the set (20-25).

In the third set Molteni replaces Marshall. Padova is the one starting better once again. Bontje’s service makes it very difficult fot the Romans’ reception. On 3-6 for Padova, Serniotti replaces Coscione with Tofoli. The setter from Fano will not leave the match until the end.

Hernandez reaches Antonveneta again(13-13) but it is just an illusion. Bontje gives his team the 13-15. On 18-19 Semenzato comes in for Kooistra. Cuban Hernandez wins the set for Roma (25-23) closing it with 100% in attack.

Balance dominates the 4th set. Balance broken by Semenzato’s block (22-21) which gives Roma the decisive break. Serniotti’s men keep the minimum advantage they need to win the match (25-23).

Hubert Henno (M. Roma Volley): «We won the match and that is important because we are first again, but we did not play well. Against an Antonveneta Padova without vital elements for their game, we should have done better».

Luis Diaz (Antonveneta Padova): «We played a good match but we were not there when it counted it. When we really had to, we did not block or digged well. It is true, serving was good but if we want to win against Roma, that is not enough».

MVP: Osvaldo Hernandez (M. Roma Volley)

Trento – The most looked forward challenge of the round starts with an important absence for Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo: setter Gonzalez, was out due to an injury to his right shoulder. Absences for Itas Diatec Trentino: Gregor Jeronic does not warm up and Winiarski is not in good shape yet.

Trento impose their rhythm from the beginning with an un unstoppable Nikolov and Della Lunga, but they have less continuity and do not manage to take off from the guests who are not so good in attack. The score continues on and off but Trento is controlling the set, while Cuneo follows and leaves the set just a few ahead.

In the second set, the leader’s heart and pride comes out and Felizardo places the break with his service taking advantage of a not always perfect reception.

Trento does not lose it and stays behind but in the end they dig everything that comes their way and a gigantic Wijsmans (73% in attack) brings the teams back on balance.

The third set is played head to head but it is Matey Kaziyski who breaks the stillness. He goes for 10-10 in attack and he signs the 12-10 with an ace and a hands out on Della Lunga.

It is the worst time fo the set for Bre Banca Lannutti who are not able to grab the service. Trento grows overall. Cuneo starts making mistakes and does not get back in the match. The last fraction of the match follow the trend of the previous one. A long balanced phase gets interrupted by Itas Diatec Trentino scoring a 6-0 that bends Cuneo.

The set is signed by the Grbic-Kaziyski couple even though everyone contributed to it.

Trento conquers the first three match balls with an attack by Della Lunga. It is just the beginning of the victory that defends the unbeatableness at PalaTrento.

For Cuneo it is the third defeat of the season, not the leadership is held together with Roma.

Wout Wijsmans (Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo): “We played badly and made many mistakes. The match had been prepared well, but maybe we were conditioned by the first leg match, when we played really well.

Gonzalez’ absence cannot be the reason for it because with MArlon we play often and we made mistakes despite the setter”.

Matey Kaziyski (Itas Diatec Trentino): “An especially hard match, especially in the first two sets. The supporters helped me playing at my best. I had a good time. We can grow a lot more, especially with our service. This match is a starting point.”.

MVP: Nikola Grbic (Itas Diatec Trentino)

Andreoli Latina – Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari 0-3 (18-25; 14-25; 18-25)

Latina – Andreoli Latina’s match against Acqua Paradiso Montichiari is an illusion that lasts one moment.  Just the time for the guests to take aim after Giordano Mattera’s bad service to start with. Latina goes on 4-1 but their match ends there. Howard and Co. block brasilian Gilson twice and Gulinelli’s men switch off.

Embarassing scores, Andreoli closes the sets on 18, 14 and 18 again. Too little to think they could even annoy a team that appeared determined and motivated, surely more balanced and solid than the home team.

Flavio Gulinelli (Andreoli Latina): «We have not even gone on court today. We have to forget about it and start again asap»
Mauro Gavotto (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari): «They ahve not played a good match for sure. We were good at not making mistakes, unlike other times
».

MVP: Mauro Gavotto (Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari)

Treviso – Sisley Volley beats Famigliulo Corigliano with a loud 3-0 in the first round of the Serie A1 TIM second leg: after the KO in Milan, Treviso takes three golden points with a performance without mistakes, three fundamental points towards the top.

In the first set balance is the king with Corigliano responding to each ball: mistakes penalised Famigliulo (12). On 15-15 Sisley finds the break with Cisolla and they seem to be ready to close the set (20-16) but Corigliano responds (21-21) and resists until the 23-23: Cisolla and a mistake by Biribanti close the deal (25-23).

The script is the same as the first set to begin with but (7-7) Sisley breaks the argins with Pujol serving (12-7) and Hubner (18-10).

Corigliano breaks down (21-12), seems to come back (22-18) but gives in at the end (25-20). In the third set Sisley breaks the argins from the beginning (12-7), takes over (21-12) and wins the match containing the attempt Corigliano made at coming back.

Renan Dal Zotto (Sisley Treviso): “We have been patient at the beginning of the 1st and 2nd sets, we went on court with great concentration. Precision and heart when digging were the basis for this success, helping Pujol who made the right choices. Fei did wel too, hes recovering well and you have been able to see that tonight already”.

Alberto Giuliani (Famigliulo Corigliano): “Despite the difference on court, my team put up a fight, especially in the first and partly in the second set, giving as little as possible away to Sisley thanks to a good reception again, despite the absence of out libero, Giovi, who had a death in the family”.

MVP: Alberto Cisolla (Sisley Treviso)

Taranto – The perfect performance and one to forget. Prisma guesses everything in preparing the matchfrom a tactical point of view while Milano gets eveything wrong,  proving to be fragile and does not manage to get it right even by changing the team around.

For Taranto, the return to victory, after 11 consecutive defeats, coincides with getting away from their immediate enemies (+4 pn Corigliano and +6 on Latina).

In the first set balance reigns up to 12 each then Milano goes ahead (12-14) thanks to a mistakes made by Taranto and a winning attack by Gardner.

Pereu finds two consecutive points (14-14), Milano places a 3 points break (14-17, Samica plus two mistakes in attack by the home team). At this point, Lattari plays the Castellano card replacing Pereu and Taranto comes back (18-17).

the advantage grows and Taranto keep it until the end of the set closing it with a diagonal by Vissotto.

In the second set, Castellano is confirmed in the starting six and the match is balanced up to 13-13. Taranto places a 5 points break (18-13) thaks to a piercing service and a breath taking blocking. Ricci changes the setter-diagonal player (out Travica and Gardner for Bendandi and Giombini). Then Nikic goes in for Samica but the result does not change. Taranto closes easily.

In the third set Milano proposes Rosalba for Samica injured. Taranto has the match in their hands and they risk to lose it when on 13-8 they allow Milano to come back (15-15), but Lattari’s men, with a monumental Rak, get back on thanks to their blocking and win the whole jackpot.

Radamès Lattari: (Prisma Taranto):” I noticed I could have worked well with this group when we played against Modena. The players commitment in training has been paid back by a brilliant performance which makes us hope for the future fo a difficult season”.

Giuseppe Patriarca: (Prisma Taranto):”this success is not signed by a single person but the whole group and the Club. It is not easy to work after 11 consecutive defeats. Now we got unstuck ourselves and I hope we will carry on making points in the next two away matches”.

Daniele Ricci (Sparkling Milano):”This match was to understand if we could have gone further this season but it proved that we ar not ready for certain things yet. Against Taranto we have not been able to do anything really and we deserved to lose”.

MVP: Michal Rak (Prisma Taranto)

Piacenza – Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza wins the challenge against RPA-Luigi.Bacchi.it Perugia for 3-0. Three important points for the team who carries on with the progresses demonstrated in the last few matches. Nothing to do for Perugia that stumbles across their seventh defeat in the last eight matches; a match with a special taste especially for coach Francesco Dall’Olio who led Piacenza in the past two seasons. A warm welcome for him. At the beginning of the match he leaves the Sintini-Stokr duo on the bench replacing them with Serafini and Tuerlinckx. Perugia starts the match with the knife between their teeth, not afraid of Zlatanov and Simeonov who take their team to 6-3. At the first TTO in fact, Perugia is leading (7-8), bringing the match on balance after the first few balls signed by Piacenza. Balance up to 19-19 when Bjelica is serving and makes a mess for Perugia. Piacenza wins 25-20. Lorenzetti still plays with Bravo for Granvorka, a good choice because the spiker becomes the match MVP. But it is the whole team which give their best. Action after action their advantage is growing more and more, despite a break by Kromm & Co on 10-10. At the end th score is clear, 25-18, a taste of what will happen in the third set. From the beginning Copra Nordmeccanica goeas ahead. With 12-4, Lorenzetti’s men start what they will finish with a 25-16, celebrating a good start of the second leg.

Angelo Lorenzetti (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza): “I am very satisfied about my team’s performance. We have to improve our attitude though at the beginning of each set, playing with determination from the very first ball. Now the team will have to find the right balance in training as we did before, managing the European and the championship’s commitments at their best”.

Francesco Dall’Olio (RPA-LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “On the eve of the match I expected such a strong and compact team. We have difficulties to keep the rhythm up through he whole set because after a good start we melt like the snow in the sun. the choice of the starting six? We are going through a building phase”.

MVP: Bravo (Copra Nordmeccanica Piacenza)
